My basic requirements are: Print photos as well as basic office documents Compact Reliable Relatively inexpensive Compatible with Dell Inspiron 8500 Any ideas? An HP laserjet costing under £200 will cover 99% of your document printing and either an Epson photo printer for the odd colour job or get the photo stuff printed online or outside. Fast, quiet, very high quality prints and it prints directly on to CD/DVD too. 6 colour tanks, which are about £6 each if you stick with the Epson ones, or around £2 each for the refills () It accepts nearly every type of memory stick, or a PicBridge (plug your camera in via usb cable). The memory slots allow your memory stick to appear as a virtual drive on your PC too and there's the optional Bluetooth wireless connection. It's not expensive ~ £100 but the printer is worth more than that. I've got many friends and family buying these and they've all loved them. Either way, you'll pay less running an Epson or Canon than a HP equivilent printer due to the way HP build their printheads. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mark Lynham Posted February 11, 2005 Report Share Posted February 11, 2005 I would echo the above, I recently bought the R300 from Staples for £89.99 and was well surprised at the quality of photo printing, I also use a HP Laserjet 1200 for documents which again i have been more than happy with over the last couple of years. I'm not keen on the memory card straight to print options as even the best taken photo always benefits from at least a little cropping or resizing before sending to print. I still have an Epson Photo 700 which has been great although fairly expensive in consumables. Comparing the cost of initial purchase is never an accurate way to base a buying decision for an inkjet. Ritey Posted February 11, 2005 Report Share Posted February 11, 2005 I've got the i455 and can say its brilliant, bought it a few years ago, is a little noisey compared to modern machines, but the quality is amazing on photo paper and produces fairly quick pages. Cartridge's are about £5 a go for black or colour but can be expensive if you plan on doing a lot of printing, if like me you only use it occassionaly proves to be very cheap!
