Printer Advice

My advice? Buy two. An HP laserjet costing under £200 will cover 99% of your document printing and either an Epson photo printer for the odd colour job or get the photo stuff printed online or outside.

My HP laser is 15 years old, is on it's 3rd or 4th cartridge and has printed thousands upon thousands of documents.

I'd highly rate the Epson R300.

Fast, quiet, very high quality prints and it prints directly on to CD/DVD too. 6 colour tanks, which are about £6 each if you stick with the Epson ones, or around £2 each for the refills (NONO3.GIF)

It accepts nearly every type of memory stick, or a PicBridge (plug your camera in via usb cable). The memory slots allow your memory stick to appear as a virtual drive on your PC too and there's the optional Bluetooth wireless connection.

It's not expensive ~ £100 but the printer is worth more than that.

I've got many friends and family buying these and they've all loved them.

Either way, you'll pay less running an Epson or Canon than a HP equivilent printer due to the way HP build their printheads.

No experience of the Picturemate. I'm not keen on the memory card straight to print options as even the best taken photo always benefits from at least a little cropping or resizing before sending to print.

I still have an Epson Photo 700 which has been great although fairly expensive in consumables. Comparing the cost of initial purchase is never an accurate way to base a buying decision for an inkjet.

I've got the i455 and can say its brilliant, bought it a few years ago, is a little noisey compared to modern machines, but the quality is amazing on photo paper and produces fairly quick pages. Cartridge's are about £5 a go for black or colour but can be expensive if you plan on doing a lot of printing, if like me you only use it occassionaly proves to be very cheap!

I bought it for over £120 but its now £59.99 at amazon

Just picked up an Epson RX420 - £65 off of Comet online. Scanner, printer and copier in one. Print is photo quality and has memory card slot for direct print from camera cards.

At that price seemed pointless buying new cartridges.

Bugger, I just paid £90 from ebuyer for that. I like it though and it's pretty good.
