shao_khan
Does anyone know if the tax implications of a company car covering 24k miles pa are the same if the car costs £48k against a car costing £32k plus 16k of options?
Newbie123
Depends on whether the Co2 emissions are the same. The Co2 emissions figure will give you the taxable percentage to work out the benefit in kind based on the total cost of the car including options. So if the Co2 figures are identical then the tax will be identical.
CarMad
You get taxed on the P11D value of the car. This is basically the list price of the car including any extras that you had included, so in the example above it will make no difference. However the next or should I say most important thing is the C02 emissions of the car. The higher they are the more you are going to get stung. However some people are getting lets say an E class Merc of Audi A6 diesel with lots of extras rather than the petrol equivilent and are saving a fortune even with lots of extras. If you want to calculate what it might be or how much you could have if you didn't take a company car go here Lex Vehicle Leasing They have a couple of good up to date calculators. Ari
Mileage is irrelevent now, its just the list price of car including options, and that is worked into a percentage using the emissions. The AA and RAC web sites have company car tax calculators, and sometimes manufacturers web sites do, audi.co.uk has an excellent one, you select the car, the model, the engine and the value of options and it works it all out for you. [/ QUOTE ] Both those will be "off the chart" as far as emissions go so it'll just be down to total price of the vehicle with options. To be honest, both are a pretty bad company car choice as they both are at the maximum percentage based on emissions. You need to be looking at things like BMW 530D or Audi A6 3.0TDi, you'll save a fortune compared to a Cayenne.
scooby_simon
ALso, remember (IIRC) it is the list price, plus the price of the extras at list price
shao_khan
Might have to rethink a bit then.
MattR32
I'm in a similar position. The R32 is total car tax suicide! Elise is very good but most other CO2 friendly cars are dull as hell!
CarMad
If you want a good tax efficient motor. Something like the 2.0 T FSI motor is great at 187 CO2 for 200BHP. Or look at a 330d or something similar. I am hoping that Audi put the new 2.7 TDI in the A4, its almost as fast as the 3.0 TDI but a lot lower CO2

Given that most performance cars are in the 35% bracket, that gets very expensive, very quickly.
