Ari
From the "What you got" thread. [ QUOTE ] 2004 Audi A4 Cab 1.8T 193Bhp with S-line sportpack [/ QUOTE ] How does he get 193hp when we only get 163? Or is it a typo? And why are there only 24 cars in that list, we have more A4 driving members than that in here don't we?
LeBigLetomski
Engine is tuned now more torque in low rev's and minus 1 second on 0-60 Costed me only 700 euro's with warranty
GCab
More torque in low revs ? Now you got my attention - when I spoke to the guy who installs Oettinger mods in the UK, he was trying to sell it to me on the basis that "you won't even notice it's there around town, but then you get out in the open and put your foot down you'll love it" - more or less the exact opposite of what I wanted (doh). How low does your modification kick in ?
LeBigLetomski
here is the chart they gave me (I had after the finetuning some 3 horses extra, so I addopted them )
LeBigLetomski
You really do feel the car is more powerfull I can drive around in 3rd gear driving 35Mph and kick down to speed away, really fantastic. Before I had to go back to 2nd gear to do the same
GCab
Cool. Who did it ?
Chav
GCab, the dealer's told me last spring that if I bought a 1.8T they would chip it for me to give 190ps etc, same as the s-line saloon.
GCab
Even cooler. Which software package/modification (MTM, Oettinger, etc.) were they offering ? What would have been the insurance implications, if you were getting it from the dealer like that ?
Chav
The dealer (west london Audi) suggested the chipping would be OEM, and covered by warranty. Whether he was talking through his bottom or not to get a sale, I'm not sure, as I found the car I wanted elsewhere in the end.
GCab
West London Audi are my dealers! And CabGirl's. ** TSN PROXIMITY ALERT ** TSN PROXIMITY ALERT ** TSN PROXIMITY ALERT ** Not sure what OEM would mean, exactly, since I don't think Audi themselves do it (the Oettinger chap said he does a lot of work "for Audi" as well as in his own right, so maybe it's him). More seriously, warranty aside, I have every suspicion that it would be considered a modification by any insurance company, because the car would not be in their underwriter's database with those bhp specs. Not declaring it might land someone in heavy doo-doo. Not only is the dealer talking out of his bottom, he is (I think) talking out of his bottom *in a dangerous manner*. Which is, obviously, much worse, as far as bottom-talking goes. Incidentally, Mr. Oettinger Installer said he'd had the CEO of Audi UK in to have his RS6 chipped. Apparently the latter afterwards said "I'm allowed to have this done, but nobody else is", winked, and left...
Ari
Absolutely definitely need to inform the insurance company of a performance enhancing modification, be it OEM or otherwise.
UBM
Agreed - even a 50 pound tuning box (which increased my premium by 160 quid). Even my grill and mirrors and stuff they wanted to know about.
LeBigLetomski
I told my insurance company that I have chipped the car, it costs me 200 euro per year extra and I don't have to worry anymore
