Didn't think it was too out the way either.

The performance should be pretty similar, even if the two manufacturers did go entirely different routes to obtaining the power.

And on a track in the hands of a very skilled driver maybe the S2000 would beat the Golf.Pretty stupid discussion though 'cos they both appeal to entirely different markets.

The Golf driver wants a very hot hatch with four seats, luxuries, safety gizmos, torque and the sure-footedness of 4WD.Whereas the Honda driver wants a two seater convertible, rear wheel drive, cane the nuts out of it to get it going and a "ooh s**t am I gonna crash at the next bend" experience. Not for everyone, that's for sure. But niether is the Golf.Strange thread!!! confused.gif

I'd like to see more of these valuable comparisons, eg:

R32 vs. MG Maestro Turbo

R32 vs. Bling-Bling Dodge Durango

R32 vs. 1929 Blower Bentley

R32 vs. Pagani Zonda S

R32 vs. Perodua Nippa

R32 vs. Raleigh Chopper

R32 vs. Nike Air Jordans

R32 vs. one of those HUMUNGOUS tipper trucks you see in Australian quarries.

Actually, the Maestro Turbo one might be surprising - or is it me?

As you know I own and R32 and love it, but I know the capabilities of the S2000 and it will beat the R. I've seen the S2000 on the track and they are bl00dy quick.

Straight line speed isn't a measure and although the R32 is a quick car and can handle the slipperly stuff, the S2000 is super quick on the dry stuff and doesn't have the R32s heavy front end. The two cars are completely different tho and are designe for different type of driving and in different conditions, so comparing them like for like is going to be hard.

Its funny tho, cos some of those guys seem to think its a hot hatch, its not, the R32 is nothing like a hot hatch. Its not a GTi, its not a GSi, it just goes to show some people need to read more before commenting on the car.

But fair play to them, each to their own opinion !! 169144-ok.gif

Aye, maybe. Its hard to describe as I see hot hatchs not only being the car but also the the of owner. Hot hatchs are the GTi, Civic Type R, Astra GSi, etc.

The R32 was a limited run (albeit bigger then initially stated), end of model, one of , non-mass production model. Hot hatchs are a class of car, which in IMHO are a mass produced, market sector car, which the R32 was't and still isn't.

Maybe its me but I don't see the R32, because of who it was aimed at and what it competes against in the market as being in the Hot Hatch sector.

Funny, I considered an S2000 for a wee while before getting the .:R .

Thing that put me off in the end was that I was so tired of having to rag the v-tec in my Type-R. They are amazing engines, but I just found them such hard work at times. At least the S probably doesn't have the same ridiculous spinning front wheels that the CTR had I suppose. Also, I was still pissed off that Honda had screwed me over with the gap insurance as well....

Plus, most people still can't tell the difference between an S2000 and an MX-5 anyways....

Zoom-zoom-zoom indeed smile.gif

Ive owned 2 s2000s before the R a My00 and an MY03. Which is why i still post on s2k. The s2000 is an amazing car when you consider what it is, a 2000cc and what it shares performance stats with. I only posted here about the laugh aspect of the s2k post as there were the odd posts in the thread dismissing the r as a golf etc etc. Mostly the guys over there are pretty fair. I posted a thread about me troncing an s2000 from a set of traffic lights but went on to tell them that I slowed down at 70 because i knew the s would catch up, I also said that the s is a bugger to get off the mark quick. it was a good thread but a couple of people reacted a sthough id broken into there houses and p#ss#d on their kids (to quote Peter Kay). It still ended up light hearted though.
