  1. We went in a couple of days later to make issue. Spoke straight to the dealer principal who swore blind that the car had sat in the lockup across the road and had not moved at all for period in question, other than to be washed and valeted prior to us picking it up. He seemed genuinely shocked at first approach and actually came straight out to look at the car. Paperwork all states 28000, which we also showed him. Basically the long and the short of it is that neither of us (us and honda that it) had any great proof at all of what the car actually said on the odo in the first place. He seems to think that someone has used the mileage from the previous service/mot a few months back on the system instead of the current car mileage. We sat debating it for a while and have been offered free servicing on the car to compensate, which is actually pretty decent (the actual mileage difference on the honda price assessment system is worth about £150). As my GF is really happy with the car otherwise and loves it to bits we thought that that seems fair enuff...kinda feel we'd rather get on and enjoy the car... b0b
  2. Getting the deposit back is not an option as she now owns the car. Unfortunately she didn't notice the difference in the mileage until later on in the evening yesterday (she was kinda getting used to the controls etc and driving a car with about 5x the horsepower of her previous one). In an odd mix of transport I actually met her at the garage on my bike yesterday, so wasn't actually in the car until we went out a couple of hours later we we noticed the change. b0b
  3. Yup...have screen grab on laptop and iphone
  4. Almost looking forward to it myself. Just not realy quite sure what I want done about it. We're otherwise happy with the car, just pissed off about the change in mileage. I expect a helluva apology, but not really sure what I expect done.
  5. Gonna check through the paperwork. Car is still listed on the dealers website with 27867 on the clock. Same Reg no. etc...first thing I checked as I did wonder for a second if it was the same car. b0b
  6. Hi Guys, Looking for a little bit of opinion or advice. Girlfriend decided to buy something new a couple of weeks back after her exhaust decided to fall off her aging 206. Plus she's fancied something a bit sportier for the last year or so as well. A couple of weekends ago we wandered into a local honda garage and spotted an S2000 GT that was perfect and she put down a deposit on it that evening. She was due to collect it on the 24th Sept (as it was her birthday) but it turned out there were some registration problems with the car due to the previous owner having it on a private plate. Still can't really work out what the problem was, but general upshot was that it took until yesterday for all the paperwork to be sorted out by the garage so she could collect the car. Thing is, as we were driving back to visit my parents last night, we noticed that the mileage on the car seems to have changed somewhat since the day she test drove it and put the deposit on it. 17-18 days ago the car had just under 28k on the clock. Last night it was sitting at 30,500. Basically meaning that someone has somehow managed to do 2.5k on the car in just over 2 weeks. This seems to be an insane amount of mileage in such a short amount of time unless someone had used the car to do about 150 miles a day, every day. Given my GF's currently mileage over the next year will probably be about 5k, this is about 6 months worth of driving for her! Given that this has also been done while she had a deposit on the car and signed the paperwork means that someone has been driving around in her car. I am kind of under the assumption that once you've done this, the car is locked up and not driven until collected. This seems kinda ridiculous to me despite the fact we are otherwise really chuffed with the car. Before we go and confront the garage tomorrow, I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions. Cheers guys b0b
  7. Update: Dropped the price a little - The new advert is at : Volkswagen : MKIV Golf R32 - VF Supercharger Stg I - 320+bhp * If anyone is interested...drop me a pm b0b
  8. I love the car to bits...and agree that I'm really going to miss it. Every so often when I take it out on a quiet day I completely change my mind about selling it (has taken me about a year to bring myself to do it). Problem is that I'm commuting by train 90% of the time at the moment between Edinburgh and Glasgow (100 mile round trip). So if I do use the car, its piling miles on to it like crazy, and it's not even fun miles! Did the journey last week with an average speed of 42mph door to door by motorway...miserable. So kinda worst of both worlds recently...ridiculously expensive and time consuming to drive, or never use it at all.... Probably will buy a wee soot chucker for the next 2 years until I'm back local...that way if I do need to drive I can just chug along and not care that the car is crying at being held back b0b
  9. Hi guys, Been a little quite of late as I've done pretty much nothing to the car over the last couple of years....but still an avid reader from time to time.... Unfortunately the time has come to let the beast go to pastures new... Figured I should just drop a wee note in to thank everyone for the help and advice over the last five years...especially with the VF kit and other bits and bobs... If anyone is interested in buying the car (or knows anyone) point them in the direction of the advert on pistonheads classifieds....car is only mid 30ks and the supercharger kit runs like a dream.... Volkswagen : MKIV Golf R32 - VF Supercharger Stg I - 320+bhp Will still be poppin in from time to time to make sure you're all behavin' though! Best b0b
  10. Great when the thing shorts and opens your door at 70mph on the motorway...handy thing about hinges on the leading edge you see...the resultant airflow keeps your door nice and shut...(unless you're that guy from East 17).... b0b
  11. [ QUOTE ] No charges are pending for the driver! WTF ? So it wasnt his fault was it eh? Poor guy. Duh! [/ QUOTE ] Appears that the guy that hit the crowd had nothing to do with the race. It's equivalent to staging a race on the M1 at 3am. Guy appears to have been driving on the highway as normal, not really expecting to drive into a cloud of smoke containing a crowd in the middle of it....
  12. Wouldn't worry about it too much....for some reason, stalling occasionally seems to set off that warning...guess it's cause the cars still 'running' as far as it's concerned, but won't be getting the expect electrical output at the time...therefore assumes the alternator is buggered... b0b
  13. [ QUOTE ] Its so hypocritical - so it's ok to chat with a passenger who's next to you, but not someone on the other end of the phone who's less likely to make a gesture and distract your line of vision etc... [/ QUOTE ] Strangely enough, handsfree doesn't make a phone that much less distracting than holding it...problem with comparing to a passenger is that phones by and large don't read the road. Your passenger (albeit subconsciously in some cases) does to a degree (i.e. will often shut up when you come to a busy intersection etc). b0b
  14. Hmmm...mine don't look smoked...you sure?
  15. Hey guys, Just noticed yesterday that I've got a crack in one of my rear lights (I'm guessing someone has hit it with a trolley or something as there's no other damage. Are the .:R's back lights just standard MKIV ones? i.e. Can I just grab a replacement from ebay etc? b0b
  16. 335i. Looks pretty good on paper. Bout a grand cheaper than anything I've seen in this neck of the woods. b0b
  17. The dealership is in Ballymena I think....need to go and check on the details though... Thanks to both of you for being so helpful b0b
  18. Really quick question guys. Spotted a car I quite fancy on the BMW network, but it's located in N.I. From where I am in Glasgow, I can actually get there within a few hours via ferry. I've always assumed that all N.I. cars are standard UK cars and there is no difference in buying from say Wales for instance. Anyone aware of any differences or problems (other than the no. plate). Would there be any issues with re-sale / future trade in? b0b
  19. The fuel economy on the SC kit really depends on how you drive. If you're doing a lot of town driving, it's pretty poor, but cruising on the motorway, I'm not really getting a whole lot less than I did before. Remember that the SC provides linear boost (and therefore a linear increase in fuel to match). Thus at low revs, the difference in fueling probably isn't all that different, however, if you sit at 5000rpm a lot, you're gonna use proportionally a lot more fuel than the stock car. The computer is probably slightly off with it's calculations too...i.e. the actually mpg figure is probably slightly less as the kit includes a slighter higher pressure fuel pump, thus for every 'tick' sent to the computer, you'll actually have injected a little more fuel than it thinks. Otherwise, the kit is amazing. I've ran StgI for almost 2 years, and apart from the intake hose blowing off once, I haven't really had much in the way of issues, other than the sore face from smiling too hard... My problem now is what to do as I'm thinking about selling the car. As it runs well at the moment, I'm a little concerned about taking the kit back off (and resultant labour cost) that may then result in a car that might not run well. Hard decision of what would be easier to sell : 'Modified Stage I R32' vs 'Previously modified R32' & 'Used VF kit' b0b
  20. Hey guys...I need a little car financing advice. Looking to buy a 335i for round about the 30k mark, but not sure what the best way to go finance-wise is. I effectively own the current car (R32) which is probably worth around 15k. I therefore appear to have a couple of options: 1. Sell (or trade) the golf and then take out a personal loan to finance the remainder of the car. This way, in three years time or so, I'd still have a decent residual value on the car (hopefully around 15k again) with which to move on again. or 2. Use BMW finance a la BMW select. Using most of the 15k as a deposit this would leave me with pretty low monthly payments over the next three years. I probably wouldn't pay the final balloon payment and would let the car go. However, I'm a little concerned to see the 15k 'dissappear' as when I come to get a new car the same finance deal (with minimum deposit) would be around double the cost per month. I would therefore be a little limited depending on my cashflow at the time... I'm maybe misunderstanding the way the finance works, but I assume that the deposit (regardless of size) effectively vanishes, and unless you pay the final balloon payment, then you are left with nothing at all at the end? - i,e, you are effectively renting the vehicle? b0b
