Sparky
How long does it take an expired Domain Name to become available to purchase? I've spotted one that used to be mine but was snapped up by someone else, but they have now let it expire and I'm keen to get it back. Is there a quicker or sure way to get a first-come basis on the sale if this user doesn't re-register it? Cheers.
Frodo
Have you checked out Internic?
Hopsta
Think the UK ones are locked by nominet, so cant cyber nick the domains without the original registrants permission.
Frodo
Yes Internic delegates the TLD of .UK to Nominet
Sparky
Not tried that. What exactly do you mean by cyber nicking? I know about cyber squatting - is this the same thing? The bugger bought the domain name when I forgot all about renewing (that'll teach me), but he did nothing with it for two years and now it expired on the 10th Jan. I understand the domain will detag shortly, but is it true it takes 60 days to go from detagged to released for sale? I just wondered if there was a way to pre-register it. Cheers lads. Munki
They have guidelines for how long it should take, but they don't publish a date for when they will release it. If they did people could sit and guard it. Instead they prefer to let people all have an equal chance to grab it when it is avialable. Needless to say I got stung with this. A company I was designing a web shop for wanted their name.co.uk I checked everyday for three months and guess what. The first day I didn't check it came and went. I have since discovered that there is software that can be used to monitor for when it does come up. I think this will do it: http://www.domainpunch.com/products/domainpunch/
