Simonl
[ QUOTE ] Can I ask a naive question? Whats the difference between a midline and a highline computer? Not a lot judging by the price for the highline as an option! [/ QUOTE ] NO NO NO NO NO, it's £40!!!!! you'll kick yourself if you don't get it. It lets you set loads of functions on the car! jonathansargent
cheers Red Robin - I've done a search and found some about it - too late anyway - the car I'm getting has the midline - that's it! - But it is only £17999 - I don't really want to pay full list price for the extra functionality - I'll live with it! Simonl
furry muff! I agree, worth £40, but not 3 grand and a 6 month wait!!!!
stevie_d
I better say welcome now that my car is on order, due to get it mid March p.s. can I just say how very bloody helpful this forum is!
jonathansargent
Have to tell you about the deal I got from motordepot.co.uk Local dealer offered me £8.5k for my 41000 mile clean Toyota Celica T sport and wanted £19k for an 11000 mile bog standard 5 dr GTi. Motor Depot gave me more for the Celica and a new GTi OTR £18k plus the car has CD and cruise and metallic paint! Worth a drive to Hull or what? No wonder stealers are getting worried by carsupermarkets. can't wait for another 20 days!!
fresco1
Finally got past the login ... Getting my first GTI in a little over 4 weeks, traded up (yes, up) from a new Audi A3 Sport (rubbish car - never liked it after the steering packed up at 80 on the M25). Audi dealer simply couldn't tempt me into an A4 Cabriolet, tried a Z4 but the steering wheel was like something out of Argos. Took an hour's test drive in a GTI across the back roads of Hampshire followed by those words I'm sure you've all said "I'll take it!". My GTI turned up early, so am waiting for the March 06 reg. Dealer told me the car was safely tucked away indoors - my arse it is - saw it today on the forecourt about 6 inches away from the Customer Parking bays. One flip out later, and dealer now aware that I am deranged GTI customer. Oh well, they deserve it. Looking forward to 1st March, have taken 3 days leave to give it a second coat of Lifeshine when it turns up! Happy Waiting to those in a similar position! Cheers. Simonl
fresco, what A3 did you used to have? similar path as me... A3 3.2 Quattro sport to a new GTI, never looked back. The A3 is a cracking car, but lacks any soul, the GTI oozes it. well done my man
Kirium
Hi all, Ordered my new GTI early Jan. Due here in Australia around July. Specs are: Candy white, Manual, Xenons, Sunroof and Interlagos cloth. Currently got a MkIV GTI holding me over until my new baby arrives. What really bugs me after reading this forum is that you can order the highline computer as a £40 option. All aussie GTIs only get the midline, unless you get satnav, which gets the highline.. I'd get the highline as an option in a heartbeat if i could. Also my dealer is still telling me there's no iPod dock option at all. It'd be nice to see it added to australian specs too. Anyway, I'll be lurking around while I wait for the new GTI
fresco1
LeMan, nice to find a fellow Audi-avoider..Last A3 was the 2.0 FSI Sport, was 6 months old but already the cat had fried itself. Then the battery fell out. Then some weird noise came into at at speeds over 70. That A3 was a replacement for my original one - 2.0 FSI S-Line, at 5K miles the steering light came on approaching J12 on the M25 one Sunday AM. Turns out the power steering motors decided to move in opposite directions, one tug on the wheel from me and the whole thing locked. Perfect timing - wife asleep, baby in the back, approaching that nice left-right towards Heathrow at J12. Anyway, did the emergency stop and avoided the armco by a couple of inches. Not scary at the time, but next day have to admit I got the heebie-geebies. Audi replaced it after a year long battle. Over the year I had 4 courtesy A3s, and every one of them had faults (mostly ECU stuff). They offered a deal on an A4 and I almost went for it, but the GTI just stole the show. Dunno how I'm managing to wait patiently - have paid for the car up front (ouch), insured it from the end of Feb (it's going on a personal plate), just don't want it on a 55 plate as I've waited 5 months already! And having read (and suffered) about supermarket idiots and trolley damage, have 'invested' in a 10 year old Brava diesel as a run about. Ironically, the Brava costs about the same as the Xenon's on a GTI .... All the best. PS - Tried to upload a photo of my GTI covered in pre-PDI-slime and bird sh.t on the dealers forecourt, but file size is too big ... will try and sort out, as anyone thinking your stealer is really looking after your 22-25K investment may want to think again when you see the state of this one ... ! fresco1
Hope this isn't boring anyone ... ! Here's the right hand side, okay so stealer has a few bits of foam on the drivers door but I reckon that grey GTI there is too close for my liking ... ! Cheers. stevie_d
[ QUOTE ] Snoopy, what is vagcom, how much is it and where does one buy it? ta! [/ QUOTE ] Vagcom is basically what the stealers use to "look" at your car. AFAIK Vagcom is only a programme that you run from a laptop, you then require a lead to connect to your car. Some vagcom products for your viewing pleasure.

RedRobin
LeMan - I don't think VAGcom works on the Mac Also it's highly technical and full of gobblygook code for the likes of us more creative and artistic Mac types
gtiveedubber
Hi all, just signed up after browsing the forums for about a week. I have a Black (pearl) DSG on order and I am told i will be taking delivery in December or even January! That's a good 10 to 11 months (i ordered it about a month ago i think... it feels like an eternity!) I got leather, sunroof and Xenon's. As Kirium said, I wish highline was an option. Vagcom looks good but it would be a lot easier to have it all in the car.
Muppetboy
Welcome to TSN! That's a long old wait and you'll need plenty of nursing, but you've come to the right place. You'll learn loads from these guys and now the time will pass quicker!
gtiveedubber
I'm not too fussed with the wait as I need to save up a bit of money before it arrives. [ QUOTE ] You'll learn loads from these guys and now the time will pass quicker! [/ QUOTE ] Unfortunately that isn't the case. I had almost forgotten about the car and then i started to read the forums and it makes me want the car more and more.
