MOSE
I know that HDMI and DVI are backwards compatible, but can they handle the same quality of resolution to a display. I am wondering cos I am thinking of upgrading some cables so that I can now use a HDMI to DVI output to my 50" DLP. If I do this will I still be able to adjust the display image to 1050i on the DVD player. Or is this literally just an HDMI function?
Snail
I thought the major difference was that one of them (HDMI i think) also has audio included, whereas the other is purely a video connector.
MOSE
Have heard this as well, but am only wanting the video from the HDMI as audio is via Denon Link.
akira
No audio is transmitter over HDMI or DVI they are pure video outputs only. HDMI is definitely the way to go as it can handle copyright information whereas DVI cant, this is why Sky etc are adopting HMDI for their HD standard. Out of interest what DVD player have you got, i'm running the new AX1 into a pioneer 43" plasma via hdmi at 1025i and the results are simply stunning. Now just on the lookout for a new HDMI switching AMP, the Denon big beast is way too big
squiffy
HDMI DOES carry audio. And as S4Avant points out, it is what will be used by HDCP which is what Sky will use to protect the content on their High Definition service next year.
