Chins
Sorry to pee on your bonfire, but this might spoil your battle plan [ QUOTE ] It is very sad I know but I made a point of finding out about this exact issue a few months ago! There are 4 versions of the Radio Gamma we are all used to in most mkIV's and all look almost identical from the front but there are many differences inside. Here is a summary: 1998-1999: Made in Portugal by Blaupunkt (I think) (no microswitched buttons 1999-2001: Made in Germany by Blaupunkt (no microswitched buttons) 1999-2001: Made in Germany by Blaupunkt (identical to above but with removable keypad. Wasn't offered in the UK) 2001-????: Made in France by Sony (microswitched buttons with lower power amplifier and automatic high-pass filter) The best unit imho is the Blaupunkt as it sounds a lot more powerful than the latest Sony units which don't go up anywhere near as loud and have an annoying habit of filtering out the bass when you crank it up. The buttons are nicer on the newer models but sound is more important! All these units have "Gamma" written on the cassette flap. The model that has this written below the volume control is the older version as fitted to the Mk3 abroad but it looks completely different to the version most people are used to. Apparantly some of the very first Mk4's have this unit with blue illumination fitted. [/ QUOTE ] Jonathan

I guess my rules could still apply with a new Sony headunit just Sony instead of Blaupunkt ?? AZ
Chins
Reading the post I guess its a Sony. I just copied the post from the MKIV BBS. Your theory could be right, but the Audio shops Ive spoken to say you cant. Jonathan
AZURES3
Guys I have just spoken to Blaupunkt's technical department, I got through to someone who knew all about the VW setups. This is the information. The VW Gamnma headunit is only made by 3 manufacturers:- Blaupunkt Panasonic Grundig VW 6CD in dash Autochanger:- Panasonic only make this unit especially for VW. I have sent off an email to Panasonic tech support for information as if they make the CD player you MUST be able to hook in 1 of their CD tuners. Watch this space as I am really on this mother. mdt
Hi guys, this is my first post on the R32 forum. Hopefully the first of many I am fully resigned to ditching the stereo as soon as my R32 arrives. I have a ten stack Blaupunkt CD and head unit, V12 amp and Pioneer 10 inch sub. There shouldn't be any problems with installing this, should there? It's not as good as the Bose system in an S3 because, as someone said, you don't get the inevitable rattles with a factory unit. But as they say, if you want to doof doof, you really gotta sub-woof. Still, I'm not paying S3 prices for my R32! Cheers lads, Matthew
Newbie123
Just found this and nearly laughed out loud, it's a paragraph from a www.4car.co.uk R32 review Aluminium-look embellishment and aluminium-rim instruments complete the makeover, along with door sill tread plates and aluminium pedal pads whose rubber grip inserts make up the R logo (a stylised piece of a moving chequered flag). Equipment is as you would expect on a top-line Golf, including a fine stereo system and xenon headlights. Fine stereo system,
Bison1379134007
which is why REAL car drivers should review cars if only i could write serisouly, i don't know how ANYONE could say it was a fine!!?? Newbie123
Just had a call from my dealer confirming my order was on the system (Should explain that I ordered Bank Holiday Monday and the system was playing up) So very happy at the moment But the reason I write, is that I mentioned that I was probably looking to swap out the standard head units (although he could give me no more info about the compatability of the units) he did mention that they had a customer do a similar thing and that they had done the work for him. It turns out he spent £32000 on the R32 and extras. I naturally said that even if you have all the options it only adds up to about £29100 (satnav, leather, cruise), he then replys that he had the speakers changed and that they cost £2000 , plus other bits ie tracker, phone kit etc

Newbie123
[ QUOTE ] When is yours due ? AZ [/ QUOTE ] Sept/Oct , so I keep thinking it'll be here for the 1st Sept , but then I have a reality check and come to my senses and realise that when a VAG salesman quotes delivery times you can usually add at least a month on. So it'll probably be November So yes you're going to order after me and get your car before me
Brabus
Guys....what about shopping around? Out of curiosity I checked around here in Geneva and was quoted delivery times from 4 months to 1 month with the spec of my choosing.... I dont know, maybe its different over there. Just a thought. AZURES3
Guys I have just had the suitable response from a large southern car stereo company. The Blaupunkt kit is the best option to go for, the following items are designed especially for the job, as advised by Newbie previously, specification and pics above. The total price including fitting is £499, obviulsy these can be swapped for the VW kit prior to selling the car Blaupunkt In dash Cd IDC09 Blaupunkt CD Tuner CD72 Miami Hope this helps AZ
AZURES3
Guys I have just been informed by Colin @ Sport Import that the decent DSP unit is available on imports with the Gamma. Picture below AZ
Newbie123
And I bet it's cheaper than here too ! Very tempted to have one of those fold out DVD Satnav screen jobbies installed in mine, very cool !
Woppum
I have been told that there are big delays on cars with the opted DSP. i had the choise to wait and wait for it or hopfully get the car soner if a droped the option. I dropped it so hopefully i will get the car sooner.
Colin M
I think the production situation changes all the time. No current delays through us in any spec.
Bison1379134007
the delta has a dsp with the same options as the one shown above... i cant; say if it sounds any better though.... i doubt it but i'd be willing to hear other wise!
Colin M
Does the Delta really have DSP or just electronic tone controls labelled similar to the DSP? The DSP option for the Gamma and the Sat Nav upgrades costs more on it's own than the Delta radio, so I'm not convinced the Delta has a "real" DSP system within. (Nick, unable to email from current location to tell you this, trust you read this post, Phil can help you with rest of questions whilst I am out of circulation for next few days). Bison1379134007
nah it has a button labeled DSP... when you hit it you can cycle through the various modes like "driver", "arena" etc etc... i can't say what the other DSP is but i'd call it a dsp... maybe not as good or something?
