mmj
[ QUOTE ] Posts: 4013 [/ QUOTE ] Make a concerted effort to switch off your computer at 11pm and not be tempted to have one last 'Smoke' at bedtime!!! (he says typing to you at 00:52!!!)

Smudge
Turn the computer off much earlier & then find a good book to read. It will take your mind off of all things that are really keeping you awake. That, or rent out the entire series of Dads Army.
mmj
[ QUOTE ] Or earlier... [/ QUOTE ] Ah yes, but too much of a good thing and all that... Not my usual haunt here, but got very bored of my other forum - so will spend my evenings of insomnia here for a while!!!

I used to have a Thomas The Tank at bedtime to help me sleep, but the wife gets really upset about that.
saab
Go for a very heavy workout in the evening and really tire yourself out. Have a hot bath and then go to bed with a cup of hot milk.

CarMad
Get into a regular sleep pattern. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. And at the weekend don't get tempted to have a long lie in. If your getting up at 6.30 in the week then no later than 9 at the weekend to get out of bed. Don't have coffee in the last 2hrs before you go to bed. Turn the PC off well before you go to bed. Watch a bit of TV maybe or read a book / magazine and get your mind off the day in work etc. Ensure your bedroom is cool if possible. We sleep better and get to sleep quicker when our body temp drops at night, all within reason obviously.

MOSE
Tom, I'm a complete insomniac, altough brandy helps!! Most of the time I go for a few nights without sleeping at all. The missus snores which makes things worse. The summer evenings dont help either. The missus has some crap films in our collection and sometimes I put one of them on and it helps!! I soon nod off!! It is difficult not to go back on PC though when I cant sleep. I need the discipline to do it just as much as anyone else!!
saab
Night Nurse should do the trick! LOL Seriously though try not to lie in at weekends - since I started getting up at similar time 7 days a week I sleep so much better as my body knows what to expect. Soapsuds
Try taking Calms (or is it Kalms??) - a herbal tablet you buy from the supermarket and take an hour or so before bed. It chills you out and you get a decent sleep! Works well if you have stuff on your mind that might be keeping you awake.... Ooops - sorry, i dozed off there! Now where did i put those tablets.........

Ari
Here's something interesting. I usually have a drink of an evening whilst watching TV or reading or what-ever. Just a voddie or two. And I sleep ok. But the last two nights for one reason or another I've not drunk any alcohol, and both nights had a fantastic nights sleep! Wonder if there's something in that... Mac
I hate sleeping with a passion. If I could take a tablet which meant I didn't have to go to bed I would. It's just such a waste of time. I get by generally on 5 or 6 hours a night and have done for the last few years. I generally go to bed about 2am and get up around 8, sometimes a little earlier (especially in the summer cos of the light). I sometimes wonder if that's healthy though. Saying that I'm never actually tired (well, not generally) and have a pretty active life??! I always feel knackered after drinking though - I just don't think you sleep properly. It's like being turned off!
FiftyPence
They say that adults need around 7-8 full hours sleep and the last couple of hours are the most important after you get through the rapid eye movement stage. I would again recommend not eating anything after around 6pm. Start to wind down around 10.30 ready for bed around 11pm and how about listening to a Classical radio station which plays beethoven or similar or even listening to the UCB Bible channel on Sky may help because its sound which is calm enough for you to get to sleep
