steph51
Hi, does someone have any constructive comments to make on my nightmare rebuild.......... To cut a long story short, I took my car to have the g/box rebuilt (recommended place). Guy said he will order a Full Rebuild kit. A week later I picked the car up, test drove it, all ok, got a 12mnth/12k ml Warranty, so drove off up the road about 2mls, and it threw all its fluid out the breather. Took it back, they said a gasket was in wrong (possible?), anyhow test drove ok, so started off home, got about 10mls down the road, and it started to bang in and out of drive at about 5-10mph, I kept going until finally it lost all drive, I had no option but to carry on, was close to home. I left the car overnight, it was to be picked up and redelivered to them, (I must point out that it DID drive on to the transporter ok the following morning. Anyhow, talked to the guy and said what the hell is going on?, he reckons that the fluid boiled, he checked the g/box codes to find the Brake switch at fault to which he said that this was prob the fault as it effects the TC lock-up, well it might do at 70mph which I didn't do. He said the box was ok as it drove ok, and wouldn't take it out again but would give it back to me with no probs this time. Can't see how he can do that cos I reckon its still a mechanical prob. Is this guy a joker or what............
SneakyMcC
Did you pay by credit card? Would the CC co. put some pressure on him?

caveman
I wasnt aware there was a rebuild kit for these transmissions...as i just went to war with my extended warranty company about my transmission they told me that amco could rebuild my tranny and a new or used one was not necessary but when i called the amco guy to question him he said there is no new parts sold for these transmissions and he told the warranty company that which was also confirmed by the aoa rep in my area my normal mechanic is friends with..so after a month of war they finally replaced the tranny..so id question where he is getting his parts..could be sticking used parts back in transmission..just a thought..i hope he offered a warranty on rebuild if he did and he cant fix it im pretty sure u can take legal action
charlie61
[ QUOTE ] could be sticking used parts back in transmission..just a thought [/ QUOTE ] More likely no parts i'd leave the car with them until they have given it a good test drive, 20 miles or more and make them pay for the petrol
A8_Tony
steph, sounds like you're having a nightmare mate This is one of the reasons I didn't go for the rebuild, at least with Audi if they will fix it, and you get a decent warranty Hope you get it sorted chap, just as a matter of interest, how much have you paid for the rebuild?? steph51
£1000, I suppose you get what you pay for don't you! Audi would've been £3k with fitting for a new box. I had a 3rd gear drum damaged, should've been a straight forward repair...guess I just took it to the wrong place. I'm gonna talk to some specialists to see what they think before I go collect next week, least that way he wouldn't be able to talk more horse manure to me, like "I guess your just unlucky, your names come out the hat"....what a load of B**locks! cruiser647
[ QUOTE ] "I guess your just unlucky, your names come out the hat".... [/ QUOTE ] He said what???? Wonder if he would say that if he was playing Russian Roulette? Geezer needs a slap. You might have to go to Audi like Tony did. Leave him and try to get your wedge back via your credit card. He sounds like an incompetent red arsed baboon.
