NewNiceMrMe
Come on, get any dealership rants off your chests - because I'm about to. I won't reveal the dealership name because it'll give my 'purchasing' away and I don't want to jinx anything this time! Anyway - get this..... You ring a dealership about a car that isn't cheap. You talk to them, blah blah, they know you're serious blah blah...you're even prepared to fly down to them and do the deal (other end of country). They give you a price on your car in P/X. They tell you that your car books at £34k-ish (a bit more actually). Yes, I know that. You want £36k or the balance to change to be right. So what do they offer? £31,000. FFS!!!!!! WHAT ARE DEALERSHIPS ON!!!!! Their explanation? Sorry, we know it's a silly price but it's the best we can do as we don't normally retail BMW's out. Why apologise? Why not just say we didn't want it in the first place and not insult me or waste my time and yours? Suffice to say I shall not be buying from the dealership in question. Cheeky feckers then say "Sell it privately, we'll happily do the deal then" - oh yeah, I bet you would!!!! Maybe I will sell it privately - but I won't buy from you on a point of fecking ethics now! Has anyone else been offered ridiculous PX prices? I was offered what I wanted by another dealership but the car wasn't right for one reason and another....so it just goes to show they're not all twats. a4tdi130
Audi A4, purchase price nearly £30,000. 7 months later offered £16,000 part-ex by Volvo dealership. Sold it privately for £19,000 very quickly, could have probably got £20k if I could have been bothered. I lost a lot on options though... if they had offered me less than list price I would have laughed and walked away, just like you have done. Lagoo
Yes! Porker dealers tried to stitch me up on my M3 cab last november and they are stripping me up again when the GT goes this weekend! I hate having a passion for cars
DaddyDub
I have been into several Stealers in the past, and this really gets me annoyed as some people blatently fall for it, and when you come to talk about a deal, they say "Give me £2k and well do you a deal" my response is usully to tell them to "feck right off" and walk out. W@nkers!

sayerbloke
"Has anyone else been offered ridiculous PX prices?" About 3 years ago, we were offered £200 for my stepdad`s K reg Audi 100 2.3l Auto. Apparently even a top of the range, mint condition quattro would only be worth about £500. My comment of "If you can find them that cheap, I`ll have 5, please" went down about as well as could be expected. Most places were offering about £1K, which was still taking the piss. I think you have to accept that dealerships are going to offer peanuts and if at all possible you should sell it privately.
CarMad
Whenever I am doing a deal with a dealer, and I seem to be Mr negotiator for the entire family. The only thing that interests me is the total cost to change. Don't care what they value the car at or what they are giving off. I have a figure in my head that they or I am prepared to pay and thats all I am interest in. Its up to them then to make the deal work for me, either on the trade in or discount on the car. On the whole this has worked very well, and a few coffees later the deal has been done.
shao_khan
Oh yeah - forgot about that one. Sold the Boxster S - described the car over the phone very acurately to dealer, they wanted to buy, so drove it down to east london, bloke offers me £1k less because its not as decribed - I hadnt said I drove the car hard and caused all the brake dust to be on the wheels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [/ QUOTE ] No, you see they're not all like that. As I say above one has come up with the right price. It was just a matter of the wife not liking the specific car. Others have come in much higher - this lot were just taking the pi$$ and they can keep their urine extraction to themselves because I'm not having it taken out of me. a4tdi130
What's with all this "can't tell you what's coming next" that everyone on TSN is doing these days? I remember the days when everyone would say what they were getting, post the brochure, debate the options list, etc etc. Now it's just "hey look ive changed my car here's a photo". Boring...! [/ QUOTE ] It's simple - you would not believe the fecking luck I am having lately. So, I'm not going to make it any worse by saying 'this is what I'm buying' until it becomes 'this is what I have bought'. As soon as the deal is done, I'll happily post pictures and spec. I am sick to death of the whole process right now and normally I enjoy haggling and the whole car buying saga. This though, well this is purgatory. Either the wife objects at the 11th hour, the car sells, the dealer offers a stupid PX, the dealer couldn't care less, the car turns out to be misdescribed (some peoples idea of 'beautiful condition' is a lot different from mine) or you find that the car is missing the one thing you're insistant it must have. I'm going from a one car person to a two car person, that's as much as I'm saying right now.
Lagoo
Does it... I would have if i had ordered a spec changable car but i havent! Dont want you knocking the options i have got when i couldn't choose them! Wont just post a photo XC, promise to discuss every option i have on it once i pick it up! CarMad
Yours stamping his feet in a tantrum. Well for the record. My current list is as follows. New 325 BMW, Lexus IS250 or Second hand M5, save a lot and just go for a cheap BMW or similar to get out of a company car. Well thats this weeks choices anyway. peterb
[ QUOTE ] I'm not telling what I am getting next either [/ QUOTE ] Well, that's a relief, SK. I have trouble keeping up with your constantly changing vehicles. I've owned seven cars over a period of 30+ years, and the other half tells me I don't keep them long enough! To be fair, my first two cars served me for 15 years altogether, the next 15 years has seen another five!
Ari
Mrme, please don't take this as a personal slight against your BMW, but do you think the colour has anything to do with it? Bright yellow with a lime green interior can't be everyone's choice, maybe they're nervous of that. I recall you saying when you got it that you got a fantastic deal, well maybe same applied then too, I find the best deals are often relative to desirability (ie a less desirable spec or colour scheme or whatever means you'll drive a harder bargain buying, but have the same applied to you when selling). It is a premium car at the end of the day, and a lot of customers are very conservative when spending that kind of money. I'd be interested to know what their p/x offer was if everything was the same, but the car was silver with black leather... It's all about perception. I know you love it, and fair enough, but it is a fairly vivid combination, and this may be what is affecting the dealers view on his ability to sell it on... Milo
Ari - I know the interior is "Kiwi" but I don't think it's lime green: I like it MrMe - the dealer wants shooting - I'll give you £31,

I can't understand people who use this forum (and are aware that many users have valuable experience etc) and yet they don't get other members' advice prior to purchasing. Bizarre.
