KEVINP
Has anyone used the R32's Sat Nav system ? Anyone knows who makes it ? I have a compaq IPAQ navigation system and was wondering if it was worth splashing out £2500 on the Sat Nav. Mine has spoken directions and post code entry . Also I managed to order the last R32 from my Dealer on Bank Holiday Monday . I have build week 49. Its a long wait but I hope it is worth it. I am planning on ordering a 5 door R32 with Black leather , Deep blue pearl and cruise control.
Colin M
I don't know the technical issues, but Sat Nav is not really a £2,500 option, it's £1,500 in Germany, Holland, Denmark etc. It's VW UK that decided to rip us off. Week 49 is a hell of a wait. I can order one for you (with £1,500 sat nav!) for build in week 32/33. I would be very careful with a planned week 49 as I am still trying to get VW to confirm that they will still build the R32 despite planning to stop the current Golf production in September. The R32 is a great car for here and now, but I wouldn't want to risk taking delivery of one early in the new year with the new shape already on the road. Tread carefully! Woppum
I decided to order the Sat Nav through an import company for 1,500. I was advised by friends and familly to spash out on the factory fitted one . I think it also looks neeter and better looking. For me a after amrket one may end up lookong a bit cluttered considering i have also bought a touch screen camera detector from morpheous.
CarlT
I have the factory Sat Nav. I like it and it works really well, was really useful leaving Inters last w/e as I put in to take a diversion missing out on the next 3 miles. Took me down a load of back lanes and straight to the motorway. Spot on !! I read this week that VW have dropped the price of Sat Nav to £2100, could be worth checking with your dealer ! Newbie123
Welcome to the forum Kevinp, I ordered mine about 3 weeks before yours and was told Sept/Oct for delivery. I asked my dealer what Build week the system was showing for my car and was told there was no build week yet and that it just said against status : "ordered" . Beginning to wonder if he was telling me porkys, if youv'e got a build week and you placed your order after me. Colin, shouldn't the VW system give an estimate of a build week once the order is on the system ?
AZURES3
Newbie 1 dealer said to me the same as Colin advised, some of the last cars taken by dealers, Nov/Dec deliveries, may not actually be delivered as they need to start production of the new MKV Golf. I would push for a build week quite hard. AZ

KEVINP
Newbie, Acording to the dealer they had 9 slots for the builds. They had sold 8 slots by bank holiday monday and I paid a deposit to secure the last one. He was able to give me the build week there and then. I also spoke to VW directly and they confirmed that if my order was taken and a build week given I would get the car. I just need to confirm the specs by Septemer 1st. I mentined to him at the time that I thought that the cars would stop production in September but he informed me that the production line for the R32 is specialist and not efffected by this. It would end production at the end of this year though. I was told that I would get one of the last R32's to be produced and that there would not initially be a MK5 R32 for at least two years. Speak to the dealer and ask them what week number you have for your slot . They should know this by now . Hope this helps . Kevin,
Newbie123
Thanks for the info Kevinp, I got a call from my dealership not long after a posted my original reply. Basically it turns out that they have been allocted 5 R32s for the entire year and that VW will only let them order 2 R32's in Quarter 1, one in quarter 2, one in quarter 3 and one in Quarter 4. I was the fourth person to order which means my r32 will not be ordered until quarter 3 (although an R32 is reserved for the garage in this quarter) i.e 1st July 2003. They expect the car to be built 12-16 weeks from this date which gives the delivery as originally quoted of Sept/Oct. I posted a topic about this on the the MkIV website .. Mark IV net A reply there confirms what the dealership told me, though it sounds like their allocation was crap ! Kevin I would check that you car has been ordered and is not like mine whereby they are not actually going to order it until they gat a free slot. But either way, the garage said they would ring VW and get back to me on Tuesday and I'll also be ringing VW but on Monday morning to see what they say

Newbie123
Kevinp, Just spoke to VW customer about the whole R32 ordering process, altough they weren't a great help, they did say that the allocations are spread out over the year (he couldn't say how many or whether it was by month or quarter) but he did say that if you are one of the last in the dealers allocation then the order wouldn't go through until at least the second half of the year i.e July onwards. But he also said it was taking a lot longer than 12-16 weeks to build them once ordered. So now I don't know what to do, I'll first wait to see what the dealer says tomorrow.
