NewNiceMrMe
These are slightly adapted for TSN, but they're ultimately the same questions as recently given to a series of potential car purchasers - by a finance house. Basically, you can pick as many as you want. However, picking a single one means you're classed as a car snob of some form.

JamesB
Number 2 isn't exactly car snobbery. The engine size of a car can be important because you don't want an underpowered car or because you want a quick car - not really snobbery, is it? NewNiceMrMe
You're right Slibby - I re-worded it badly. It was a bloody long question though originally, but I think people get the idea (I hope).

cruiser647
Number 2 for me. As Slibby says, engine size says nothing. You can get a Merc with a 1.4, or a Ford with a 4.6 (neither of which appeal to me). I buy a car because I like it, not because my friends would like it or 'look up' to me, or because it would sound/look good crunching up a gravel drive, but for me...... One of my squashing mates has a new Octavia RS - went in it the other day.......cracking car! The other has an FQ300 - it's fast, but not me. The other has a '05 A4 T Avant - but his wife drives a Ka....she likes it If people are embarrased by a car, then don't buy it. Company cars are more choice these days, so no-one get lumbered with the dross anymore - they mostly drive what they want.
MattR32
I see badge snobbery as both old fashioned and rather immature - An oxymoron of sorts I suppose. I now laugh at those that insist of paying 30+% more for a car that's actually 90% inferior.

[/ QUOTE ] Waits for somebody to make BMW joke... I'm not a complete badge snob in that I wouldn't not drive a car because of the badge, but I am in that I certainly would prefer to be driving an Audi to a Mazda, for argument's sake (sorry to any Mazda drivers, nothing wrong with them per se). However, I may also be a model snob because I just don't feel 'right' in the A2 even though I love it, but that could be because I do tend to look a bit like I had be be wedged in with a shoe horn. GCab
I think there are two degrees of snobbery as well, aren't there ? One is the "man in the street" angle, who sees simply the badge and thinks "BMW > Audi > Vauxhall"; The other is petrolhead snobbery which is a bit different and more specific: I would imagine that someone pitching up to a car meet in a VX220 might get ribald comments about depreciation, but everyone there would actually be fairly impressed and would know they'd much rather be in that Vauxhall than in an Audi A2 or a BMW 116. Similarly I might respect someone's choice of a Ford Puma or MX-5 as a driver's car, more than someone else's pick of a Merc estate just because it has three stars on the bonnet. Torino101
I am a car snob to a certain extent (yes I drive a BMW), but a good car would always win over the Badge for me i.e Nissan 350Z, VX220, etc. I tend to find that females are worse culprits of badge snobbery than men.? NewNiceMrMe
Looking at the results as they stand, with 91 votes cast.... They mean that over 82% of TSN-er's are car snobs. I'm surprised that almost 50% of TSN-er's are concerned about the badge on their car though (although I confess I was one of them). Then again, I factored in that Perodua was a car badge and that was enough to convince me I must tick the box...

felixthecat1
We're all snobs to some extent. The trick is to remember that although it's a four letter word it's not a dirty one. Be proud of being a snob I say, where's the crime?
