s4dreamer
My neighbour tried to play a DVD (video) in his laptop running XP, and got a message saying that it couldn't find a "compatible decoder for this DVD". Anyone got any ideas that I can claim as my own when I nip round there later ?
Thorburn
Install some DVD software such as WinDVD or PowerDVD Windows Media Player does not comes with an MPEG-2 decoder required for DVD playback, you have to install a third party one. s4dreamer
Hmm, having problems getting to InterVideo's site and PowerDVD is not for free. Anyone know of any free Windoze DVD decoders/players ?
pingpongpo
'tis strange as you normally get dvd software with any computer you buy. Is he sure he hasn't got the cd lying around somewhere but hasn't installed it?
pingpongpo
Although if not, I don't know if this is any good. http://www.cliprex.com/
Rustynuts
If you want a "Power DVD" disc, I'll have one laying about you can have.
s4dreamer
Thanks for the offer Rusty, come to think of it, I think I got something with either my Asus mobo or DVD write or both, so I could donate him one of those. Good thought, Simon - I'll check to see if he got any extra software when he bought the computer. If it comes to spending any money, I've told him he might as well buy a cheap DVD player from the supermarket instead.

s4dreamer
Thanks Ant, I'll give it a try if I can't find the DVD software which came with my mobo (or anything which came with the guy's computer).
