clowesy
Dear all, I am just about to buy a tdi 4 motion markV golf. I have specced the following: Torino 17" Wheels Winter pack - her indoors liked the heated seat idea Climate Arm rest Mats Steel Grey met paint Is there anything else that I need! I presume that it will be a 2006 spec, the dealer stated it would be a 6-8 week build time. How do I tell if it is a 2006 spec. Secondly, a service package costs about £20 a month is it worth it. Finally is there anything I should know before buying... Cheers Clowesy

Other than that you chosen well, nice car and I'd have a TDi 4MO over a GTi. As for servicing, get a full detailed breakdown of what is included and is the car on variable servicing, if so then stick with regular pay-as-you-go, cos £20 per month = £240 p/a, which is about right, but if variable you could pay as much as £480 before you get the 1st service!!!!! :
Sparticus
I added a sunroof and storage pack, otherwise identical. People question why have sunroof and climate control, but those crisp mornings, dusky evenings with the wind in your hair always convince me to spec sunroofs with my cars. Only £490 as well. Merc charge £900 for a similar size sunroof. Went for Indianoplis wheels though. 2006 spec cars do not have 2zone climate as standard ( thats another £690 ) and also have bee sting aerials fitted. Easy to spot. Don't like the sound of that service package, does not give you room to negotiate.
Mook
[ QUOTE ] Secondly, a service package costs about £20 a month is it worth it. [/ QUOTE ] Presumably this is tied to the finance. Steer well clear of this if I were you. BMW manage to offer a 3 year service deal for £100 or £200 - £20 a month (£240 a year) sounds feckin expensive to me. I don't think I even spend that on the R32... If the dealer says 2006 spec, then make sure you get it in writing that it will be - there is a backlog of stock on the Mk5 TDI 4Mo's at the minute. The letter should come from the sales manager or sales director, not the sales rep who is selling you the car. HTH
clowesy
Thanks for the advice, Not going to take the service package - I will go onto AVS long life service anyway. I have specced the car but just a further query - what is the main difference between a midline or a high line computer: £45 does not seem that much to upgrade? I will take your advice about the 2006 model letter - as I was speccing the car the sales gut did state that this would have to be a factory build - I presume the factory is now producing 2006 cars. Finally, I seem thick, somebody has mentioned the Bee Sting ariel before what is it? Does it look like the ariel on my a3 just with twists in it. Thanks for your help Clowesy
Sparticus
High Line computer is worth speccing. I think it is only another £50 but allows you to programme things like the delay function on the headlights and auto locking when you reach 5 mph. Don't know if the dash display looks any different though. Bee sting aerial is on the roof at the back at an angle and is 'curly'. Just like the Mk2 Gti 16v.
