doogal1972
I ran elf F1 fuel in my Corrado for a while, that's unleaded 100 ron, the smell from the exhaust was top quality!

doogal1972
I used to work for a F1 team. No point in being coy about it now as they don't exist anymore. It was Arrows, and they were selling off race fuel to staff when there was the first big fuel crisis a while back. When the engine was running you could see people sniffing the air as it's so distinctive! Funnily enough, my car ran rather well on it!!
F90X
Well I'm not an S3 (hopefully my next car so look out for some picking of brains) owner YET but I have been putting Optimax or BP' version in my Honda Civic VTI-S for over a year now and I can really tell the difference between the good stuff and the bad. We all know that a VTEC engine can be a bit dull in the lower rev range, but fill it with regular 95 and it feels like I have the brakes on when I pull away or am crawling in traffic. The difference really is night and day, smoother all through the rev range and at low speed gear chenges too. It might be a more pronounced difference in the VTEC as nothing really happens before 4500-5000 revs anyway and your turbo engines start pumping out the tourque a lot earlier but I say that it is really worth the extra. Fortunately I dont do too many miles and all my work mileage is paid for so it doesn't dent my wallet too much but I would still choose it over 95 any time. As for sticking 100ron in your motor, I wouldn't have thought it a good idea as all the Jap imports are set up for 100ron over there and have to be converted to run on our 98 when imported otherwise they run too hot and are likely too go pop. However it was only temporary and I should think quite a laugh while it lasted. Cheers Steve
Chelsea Mick
Well on my travels today I filled up at Tesco with 99ron...Was 91.9p per litre but my Missus had kndly left me a 5p off per litre voucher so worked out 86.9p per litre. Much better that 99.9p for Optimax at my local garage. Just wondering if it's gonna make any difference as I haven't put my usual bottle of Millers in with the petrol this time. MOSE
I've gone back to using the Sainsbury's Super unleaded for the time being. The car didnt like the 99 Ron at all, although it was giving unbelievable mpg return for the size of the engine. Car felt a bit sluggish at times, so managed to get to empty quite quickly and fill up again with normal 97ron super, car seems much happier now. Mick, 91.9p is a pretty good price for it mind, local Tesco here is still at 95p
Philbes
According to tthe latest Shell advert Optimax will provide an extra 28 miles per tank full of fuel. That's ½ mile per litre, less than 2½ miles per gallon. So Optimax would cost more per mile than standard fuel. So no economy advantage.
F90X
Yes, that's possibly so, but it makes my engine work better so it stays.
doogal1972
I've been using BP ultimate at 100.9 per litre! I'll be interested to hear what fifth gear say when they do their fuel comparison on Monday's show. I think they will do most grades and brands of fuel. sitas3
Mick, I'm also using the 99 ron stuff - have been for weeks and no problems performance wise. Recently i've been putting in a bottle of millers and I have knocked the timing up slightly whilst on lower boost settings - car is flying at the mo! Chelsea Mick
Si. I was wondering about Millers in the 99ron stuff as I've still got a couple of boxes left... You're ok as you've got some control over your timing where I'm stuck... I suppose that adding Millers to 99ron will take it up to 100ron (or very nearly).
