Hmmm... nice answers guys. I only asked cos I've been stopped twice in two weeks & was feeling pretty annoyed at having the power, but being afraid to use it.

I do appreciate the power when coming onto motorways & overtaking i guess... its just I havn't found any 'secret' roads yet cos I only just moved to Glasgow! (Any hints would be nice....) FIREdevil.gif

Move back to England.

Seriously, Scottish police are a nightmare, especially Lanarkshire and I would know, lost my licence for speeding on the M74, one time offence, 103mph recorded, 1 year ban, £fine and retest openfire.gif

PG that is Fecking nasty!! OMG blush.gif

Sorry to gloat but that has made my day. It knocks my 56day ban for 113mph on the M4 this year into next week!!

I can't believe they're SOOO harsh up there.

When did it happen?

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away....

Actually it was 1997. However the English passed a traffic law for Scotland that states anyone caught doing over 100 mph on any Scottish highway automatically receives a 1 year ban and compulsory retest if convicted in a Sherrif's court.

Worst thing is that when you are summoned, you have to go to the Sherrif's court local to the offence. They queue you up and go through the offences, if they don't have time to hear your case that day you have to go back again until they do.

Court was in Lanark, I lived in Newcastle, and of course you have to go with a friend because if you are convicted you can't drive back. The irony of it all is that I was caught on boxing day 1996 but convicted in October 1997 after having to reattend 3 times for wait for it... dangerous driving.

So what sort of driving was I doing in the ten months between offence and conviction... mildly hazardous?? smashfreakB.gif

Feckin useless system. openfire.gif

As Iv'e been drawn into the police/speeding/points/ mad.gif debate before, I'll stear this topic back on course and say, I think we buy fast cars because we all love the thrill of driving. Be it at 25mph round a tight bend or 125mph on a long fast A road... ahem.... so I'm told... grin.gif

There are plenty all over the place...

Whereabouts in Glasgow are you - you need to come along to the next Scottish meet... or we need to sort a mini one out!

That is very harsh. I don't hang around on that road sekret.gif but I am starting to hear a few nasty stories...

Hmm - the M74 is one of the widest, most open and safe for high speed motorways that I have driven on in the whole UK - and it sometimes can feel as if its been locked down.

Although, to be fair, Strathclyde Police publish a list of all their fixed and mobile 'camera' sites each month - no accounting for Traffic Cars though.

Problem is, one of the Traffic HQs for Strathclyde is on the M74 at Motherwell, and there is alot of Traffic Police on the motorway in general becuase there is a lot of drugs and dodgy Northern Irish weapons transported up and down it, day after day.

Just to add insult to injury, when I got caught by a VASCAR on the M74 it was outside Lanark at the services there. On the road at the same time on the downhill stretch I was on were three cars, all on the inside lane, so it's not like it was busy either and I was a hazard to anyone else but myself.

But like the Murphy's, I'm not bitter!

With so many speed cameras, police cars & plainclothes cars, I have to ask why do we still buy fast cars?

I feel my car is wasted on these roads, cos whenever i want to have fun in it, i'm shiit scared of getting stopped, so it isn't fun! suicide.gif

You know, you're right.

I'm off to buy a diesel Transit! 169144-ok.gifjump.gif

Why do we buy fast cars? 2 reasons;

1. The "Spinal Tap" Effect. We want something which will go one better than the rest. Turn it up to 11!!!!

2. The "Millenium Falcon" Effect. Fastest (hunk of junk!) in the galaxy = cool owner = great image.

Or am i just thinking of this due to getting Ep III on DVD today??!?!?!?!?

Well the downgrade from a proper fast car to an averagely rapidish tractor felt like a fate worse than death at first but now I'm getting used to not getting hassled by chavs, not worrying about vandalism but still being able to usefully overtake when needed.

It's quite a revelation, or at least it was until the mk5 R32 came out...
