Paley
I'm sure you diesel boys will be mightily unimpresed by this - but just done the first long trip in the new Avant (2.0 TFSI) - round trip of 400 mainly motorway miles. Filled up on the way out of town and got back last night with 165 miles still showing on the tank - effectively 565 miles range. This compares very well against the old Cabrio (2.4) which managed probably 200 miles per tank fewer and drank almost as much oil as petrol. Very happy with it - but also the phenomenal performance of the engine. Pulls away fast in any gear from 3 >6. All in all a very happy weekend's motoring. Stealer suggested to me that when it gets to around 7000 miles the economy and performace gets even better. Just thought I'd share that with you. shark_90
That actually is impressive mate. I had a 2.0TFSI Q A4 for a day and I was very impressed by it. I was having a little too much fun to enjoy the good economy, and it had only done 3500 miles so it had a long way to go to loosen up. I usually get ~600 to a tank in my diesel A4. I don't hang around
Ari
Paley, what MPG were you averaging? Everyone seems to rave about that 2.0 Tfsi engine, good to hear its living up to expectations in the real world.
Paley
Difficult to tell on the MPG because the new car doesn't have DIS (just the fixed thing that tells you what the radio station is, temp and remining miles). Must be way over 30 and I really wasn't hanging around - averaging 80 - 85 mph.
Ari
Ahh, fair enough. I do a semi regular 570 mile motorway round trip and I'm normally filling up about half way back so thats about 400 ish miles to a tank (1.8T Cabrio). Assuming same sized tanks that is a pretty useful advantage.
Chav
I get 450-500 miles from a tank cruising down the motorway at 80-85mph! (3.0V6)
dogard
yeah i like mine. i averaged 34mpg on a 400 mile trip last month averaging around 80+. the best thing about the engine is you would never know it was a turbo, it has torque everywhere. driving around town i find the fuel consumption pretty bad though. Chav
Well that always includes wandering around cambridge at 20-30mph too, otherwise it would be a bit higher! Have had 505 miles for pure motorway I think but I always refill with at least a few miles to go in the tank!! My 1.8T used to get far less from a refill! Sparky
I think you must wait for the right wind conditions and plan your route through the least hilly areas
Booster
The economy does get better with a few more miles on the clock. Mine has now done 10k and is much better on long runs. Still get around 22mpg round town though.

CarMad
I have got 38.5 MPG from a round trip in rush hour traffic from Manchester to Warwick and back with a good 80/85 ish cruise. That is in an A3 sportback but the weight isn't that much difference to the A4. All in all a great engine that can sip fuel but through you down the road the next. SJC1975
I get between 33mpg in my 1.8T (163bhp) to 45mpg depending on driving style and road. 47+ on motorway! Amazing for a turbo petrol.
