Durrsaku
My sky box is playing up at the moment. Not switching on and turning itself off while watching, pixulating too. I was quoted £70 just to have alook at it despite what could be wrong. Anybody got an old skybox i could borrow?
Booster
Just cancel your subscription and take out a new one in your Mrs name (assuming you have a Mrs!) and hey-presto, new sky box for free (or £49 for Sky+).
DHA
Have you done a full reset? Switch off at mains for 10 mins. Remove viewing card. Switch power on but leave on standby for 10 mins. Insert viewing card. The press TV then SKY on the remote. See how that goes.
Durrsaku
I have done reset but the problem has repeated itself several times within two days.
DHA
ahh, probably a new box required then. Why not ask how much it would be to upgrade to SKY+ possibly only a little more than the £70 call out fee
Sparky
Is it getting enough ventilation?
Durrsaku
Probably. It is on top of the video player and it has about a finger clearance from top shelf.
Sparky
Hmmm. They do like their space. Sky had to look at our previous boxes as they all over heated and it switches off. Took it out the unit - been fine ever since.
DHA
My new Amstrad box is on its own glass shelf, runs better than the old box but that was probably disk issues rather than the box itself
Snail
Are you sure its not the weather? Our old box used to do wierd things during very bad weather.
Sparky
They shouldn't turn off in bad weather though
Snail
[ QUOTE ] They shouldn't turn off in bad weather though [/ QUOTE ] I agree, but the old sky box used to do it, and my freeview box does it in bad weather too.
Waylander
they go for about £20 on ebay. When my mate rang and was confronted with this £70 he pointed out that he could just junk his current box and get another one - they relented and waived the callout fee. pingpongpo
[ QUOTE ] They shouldn't turn off in bad weather though [/ QUOTE ] My picture freezes and then I can't get anything if its really hammering down with rain. My Sky box is always hot as well. Even on standby. Is this normal?
Waylander
my box is really crap in bad weather too. I might go with a new contract via wife too....
Sparky
Yeah, mine freezes/breaks up on the image during heavy rain and snow. This, and it running hot are normal. But I'm not convinced they should turn off during bad weather. Only when they reach a certain temp do they shut off.
Durrsaku
It seems to be working ok now but i have been switching it off a lot more just to keep it cool.
Sparky
You lot are a bloody jinx! Sky+ box died this evening, removing ALL programmes stored in the planner. Tried telling my Mrs that she's canning the machine too much, but Sky told her that the power cut has caused the Hard disk a problem so it needed formatting. She also recommended a Surge protector plug. Now they tell us......
