X5 Buying Advice

Considering an X5, and torn between a 4.4 or 3.0 (petrol). Obvisouly I want the V8, but just wondering what the real world difference in mpg is between the two engines.

I know you shouldn't buy a V8 if you're gonna worry about the mpg, but if is not much worse than the straight 6 3 litre, then there's not much in it.

Any other buying advice regards to the V8 or straight 6 much appreciated. I'm looking to buy 2nd hand, budget of £25K ish.

Yes an X5 is a big change from my current VW R32, but I want comfort and space, something the R is not big on.

Cheers

I just financed an X5 4.4Sport for a customer of mine. 2001 Y plate done 44k, retail deal £19,995. That is trade according to Glass's Guide for that vehicle. For £25k you would get a very nice 4.4 (as unsurprisingly the market for them is limited due to the fuel consumption).

FSH is a must, bear in mind how much tread is left on the tyres (they ain't going to be cheap). I know there are issues with the auto box on diesels as a few customers have had problems but haven't heard of any problems with the petrol models.

Manual models and those without the comms pack get hammered when it comes to p/x time so if you aren't bothered about getting an auto and can live without satnav you could get a "bargain" one.

I nearly was, conmsidering I pay £165 a month to insure the Alpina whilst an X5 would cost me £60!

For the amount of miles I do nowadays the 4.4 would have made as much sense as any too.

They're a great car if you've got little kids too.

You'll not get as many annoying boy racers up your arse either! 169144-ok.gif
