tuningwerkes and APR chip

Been offered an APR chip for my S4, and been in touch with TuningWerkes of Croydon (Ruben) Very helpful chap, considering i was asking him to install someone elses chip, but before i bite the bullet anyone heard anything plus or minus about the company or the APR upgrade?

I was hanging out for a REVO since i thought that didnt need a chip replacement, so no messsing with my ECU, but have i got that wrong, i havent found anyone localish who can help me with REVO.. (am near Brighton / Gatwick)?

I have prevaricated about the bush for far too long, I need to get the extra power released before.... well soon, anyway, but dont want a dodgy upgrade that gives loads of power at all the wrong points and duffs my engine.

Thats enough from me, anyone got anything to say, anyone? Hello? ECLIPSe.gif

I hate to sound negative, but based on the discussions in the R32 forum, don't go near APR. Any conversions that people have had done have given anything from slight power increase, to no power increase, to less power... crazy.gif

2.7 Bi-Turbo S4 + AmD Stage 2 conversion = great fun 169144-ok.gif

You don't have to go local if you use a system like DualSystem or OneClick. It can all be done through the post. Just the same as a REVO Re-Map but you deal with real tuner and not just someone who re-flashes your ECU.

I guess your car is too early for a OBD II Re-Map....? Stars Audi page states two options for the 2.7 Bi-Turbo. I'm sure they used to be a APR dealer also.

Give Jim a call, his knowledge is second to none.

Thanks Mook - I did more research and found no positive comments but couldnt link anything directly to APR and the S4. I shall steer clear. What year is your S4 and who did your upgrade? Did you have a stage 1 first or go the whole hog in one go? The Revo one seems to be the way to go, IF my car can be flashed by the OBD port. I will speak to them today..

Thanks Bub. I will call this guru Jim also notworthy.gif

My concern with a "remote" tune however is to what happens if it highlights something else wrong with the mechanics - dodgy DV valve, or a sensor or something. Hence i was hoping to get it checked and poss dyno'd before and after - i guess i am just nervous about any possible detrimental effect that will also confuse the stealers if i have to take it there. Hopefully Jim will clear this up for me - i shall report back!

www.amdtechnik.com - I only had the S4 for six months, because I couldn't live with 19mpg average. Had a 2.5 TDI Allroad after that (also tweaked by AmD) and run an R32 now (a bit better at 24mpg) also been played with by AmD.

***UPDATE*** Just had a very helpful discussion / chat type thing with Doug at MRCTUNING mrctuning.com about his remapping etc. Sounds like the best route to me, now i understand the process. The thing i have always failed to be happy about is the process of a chip swap or off-the-shelf upgrade. HOW does the supplier know that my car is exactly the same as their base car - I always assumed that the ECU maybe adapted itself to the nuances of each car, but i see now that each car IS different and S4's certainly have their foibles crazy.gif so i do like the idea of his approach, which is:

Replace ECU with diagnostic ECU module.

Drive car to get full diagnostics of any issues / weaknesses

Custom Remap engine to match characteristics

Flash original ECU with new code

Drive away with big smiles and happy engine. ECLIPSe.gif

Or have i missed something!

For me it sounds perfect and i shall be visiting Doug as soon as i can get the time to get up to Banbury.

I think you're spot on there. 169144-ok.gif

When I had my Re-Map done Jim was able to tweak it a little for me too - It was a hot day (just my luck) and if we'd had more time to cool the car between runs then I'd probably got a bit more too!

MRC seem to have a great knowledge too and for a bit extra a custom Re-Map has got to be the way to go!! 169144-ok.gif
