Lauren
I've been told that I may be having problems with my comfort control module because my interior lights, central locking, electric windows & mirrors have stopped working - can anyone tell me where this is exactly located & how much it is likely to cost, can't find anything about it online or in handbook....thanks!!! drpellypo
It'd be helpful if you could post your model/year of Passat. In my 97 1.9tdi, it was in the rear passenger door casing.

drpellypo
B5.5 should be in the same place as where the one I had was. IIRC, it was rear passenger door. I could be totally wrong though - it was that long ago.
Rustynuts
Lauren, all your problems appear to be connected to the comfort control module. If you keep to one thread about your problems, it makes it far easier for someone to help you. With numerous posts all over the forum, people just don't know what's going on where, and you'll get confusing and conflicting answers. Pick one thread and stick with it there, (maybe ask the mods if they'll close all the others) now that you've got a handle on what the problem is. As far as I know, the comfort control module is under the carpet in the passenger side front footwell. Water affects it and causes all sorts of electrical problems. Look there. meriafel
If you don't check for blocked drain holes under your bonnet and clear away any leaves that you see around your wiper arms --- daily at this time of year ---- you will eventually get water into the passenger well and will suffer problems such as this. If you suspect any carpet wetness do lift your carpet and dry out thoroughly. Its not easy, is very time consuming but it will save you a load of grief and possibly cost as well! It can't be said often enough.
Lauren
Not all bad news? My other half gutted my car today and on finally peeling back the carpet found the expected damp problem. After de-flooding the battery bay after a swift poke with his finger to release the water, it appears to have drained. A friend of ours who knows his electricals found that most of the cables under the carpet in the passenger footwell had rotted/corroded and proceeded to fix them. The only good thing to come out of this so far is that my interior lights (prevoiusly never witnessed by myself) work!! Yay! Apparently i still need a convenience control module for the central locking and electirc windows - does anyone have any ideas where i could pick one up a bit cheaper than the £200 quoted by main dealer? Thanks for all your help! Lauren and Jamie

Lauren
Ended up having a complete result!! The central locking now works along with my electric windows and my interior lights are still putting on a fine performance. All that appeared to need doing is allowing the electrics to dry out in the passenger footwell. I still have the carpet rolled back dry it out as much as possible but it seems to have solved my issues! My car is well again! Hope I haven't spoken too soon!! :~
Lauren
Yep unfortunately I spoke too soon!! Since the New Year the central locking has completely given up, electric windows do not work either The battery also died an unexpected death which i replaced with an all new battery which has completely died too just 2 weeks after installation!! We're not tempted to pay £150 to VW for a comfort module as i'm not sure if that would solve all the problems. VW advised me not to get a second hand module due to different part codes which could explode the whole electrics!
asta
yep, once the damage is done, the damage is done. probably need a module and some of the wiring replaced.
Lauren
*Update* Had a thought that perhaps the module was draining the battery - maybe the interior boot light was staying on or something?! So removed the module out of the car - the battery is still flat! Hopefully a friend will look at this weekend and help to diagnose further. Cheers for all your help. jojo
On the sibject of comfort modules, my Passat Estate TDI 115 had a problem last week, whilst driving, the central locking would lock itself, and unlock itself. And whilst slowing down for a set of traffic lights, the alarm suddenly went off!, but the car was still driveable with the indicators flashing and siren sounding, so I pulled over, switched the car off and back on, and it was cured.... not done it since neither?!? Anyone got any ideas what that was all about?

Lauren
Further update... We finally seem to have eveything sorted and its nothing to do with the Comfort/Convenince module itself . We put the car in with a vehicle electrician and he found the drivers door window motor was faulty which was also draining battery power. The central locking fault was apparently down to corrosion of wiring in the harness in the N/S which has now been repaired. Eveything now appears to be fine with the car ...Fingers crossed we haven't been done over by a quick fix cowboy!!

blackmagicsweep
Probably nothing wrong with the battery because wet ccu can caused massive drain. Just needed charged. In the mean time just topen the ccu box and take out the plugs to stop draining battery
