Hiya

A3 Tiptronic Fsi 2.0 Sports.

As this is my first automatic, i was wondering if someone with more experience could advise me on this. I sometimes find that when wanting to pull out quickly at junctions, i tend to wheelspin! or at least that is the sound i hear. I dont mean i pull out dangerously quick, just that when someone is giving way, seems impolite to let the car slowly wander into position.

Should i be switching over to manual selection (1st gear) or switch to sport and then back again to 'Drive'? I ask because, i had hoped i wouldn't have to deal with any gear changes with an automatic? Oh and, if i select first and dont change back, i can see that the gearbox automatically changes up, but i guess this would cost in terms of fuel economy as it is hold the revs higher before changing?

thanks for the help

Hi mate, if you press the accel too hard, the kick-down feature of the auto sets in... its an annoying trait that I've noticed in all non-quattro Audis.

In the wet, switching to manual selection helps as you have smooth control of the throttle.

After a while, you'll get used to the exact bite point at which the kick-down comes in.

The tip box will change up automatically in manual mode when it reaches the red-line... changing up a bit before it reaches that every now and again will help economy! grin.gif

Hiya

Ah right. that also explains the slight delay in power, when hitting the accelerator. It's switching to sports. thanks for the tip smile.gif. Maybe, i really ought to read the manual someday smile.gif.
