RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] What about the next owner of the GTI when you trade her for the R32 Red [/ QUOTE ] The number of TSNers saying I'm going to go for the R32 prompts me to consider doing a poll "RR will..." or "RR won't..."! 24hrs from now I'll have a better idea which way. bodger00
Make a stand Matt! At one point I thought that all stealers were conspiring against me. I have had some crap experiences. I once took a car in to get serviced and they took a chunk out of one of the alloy wheels whilst rallying around the estate. I then had to spend the next month fighting for them to give me a new wheel. In my experience all you have to do is keep climbing the tree until you find the person that cares. I agree that you should get the bottle opener as its really an integrated part. However, walking out with it in your hand and getting arrested for stealing isn't that clever. I say name the dealer and tell everyone you know about the experience. You would not believe the power of the consumer. You have got to stand up to these people. What ever happened to being made to feel like a customer after you have bought the car?
TwoSheds
[ QUOTE ] taking this further. Is there a list of must haves before accepting the car off the dealer? Due to pick up mine on March 1st and I don't want to sign for it unless all the bits that I've paid for are present. Worrying that things like leather manual case, bottle opener etc are missing.... Anyone got a quick list of things to check for? [/ QUOTE ] Rowley, Looking at your spec. the only two things are: the leather bound GTI badged manual & the bottle opener. VW UK supplied GTIs don't come with a warning triangle or first-aid kit. The bottle of top-up oil /zip up case is not part of the vehicle purchase. bobbypig
I got the bottle opener in new car in Jan. A bottle opener alone is no big deal but it doubles as adjustable part of cup holder and there is a slot specifically for it. The salesman can F off, its prob worth about 50pence but it's part of the car. Hell i got a full tank of fuel and bottle of wine with the car (Lookers Darlington) and the hand over was fab, took full hour just telling me everything, all the highline comp functions, cd stuff, turning off pass airbag etc etc. Then had to sit down with bus manager to say if anything i was not delighted with. BTW FAO RED, Bus' Mx drives R32 (which i also tried) and he said hand on heart the GTI is the better buy and all rounder.(I agree)

Ken1
Matt, My car was delivered on 19th May 2005, and at first had no bottle opener included , the dealer gave me one about two days later . I'm in Ireland .
TP27
Just had a scoot on eBay. There are a number of bottle openers for sale. These must have been "half-inched" from our cars !!!!
Simonl
i couldn't find them on ebay. Write to the guy selling them, befriend him, tell him you have some mates interested and how many can he get, get his address, tell him you have a mate that lives their (what a coincidence) ask him what dealer he works for... then report the fecker
Stabb
bobbypig is right the bottle opener has an inlay (no doubt you've seen where it fits) but more importantly the bottle opener lets you adjust the cup holder size to the beverage you may be enjoying at any one time (a cup of Her Majesty's finest for you red). So bottom line is your stealer as you guys call them - is ripping you off - and its not anything to do whether it costs £20 or £150 for the thing. It's the same as getting a bee sting aerial without the aerial end!!
scillyisles
Just spoken to my dealer - he's ordering me one and he mentioned that it's not unusual for things to go missing from cars particularly as they are being transported.

allroadman
There is always a way of settling these things if the dealer trys to tell you that this part is not in the spec of the car, look in the service book or the sticker in the boot , you will find a label with 3 digit codes for example your bottle opener ( part number 1k0858230)has the PR code of 6E3 which means for arm rest, so if you have that then you should have had the opener ! anything which ends with a zero ie 6E0 means without
