Martin24
Hi there, I will try to keep this simple. To turn the alarm on so that the little red light on the drivers door lock near window flashes I have to press the key ring 3 times. Is this right? I would of thought once should be the norm! So every time I press the key ring the cars central locking is operating- I guess my worry is that I am wearing my central locking 3 times faster than normal!!!!!!!!!!! drpellypo
Thats not right. You press it once to lock and arm car, and twice, I think, to disable deadlocks. It might be the other way round. Pressing it three times in theory, would normally unlock the car.

Martin24
Hi there Sorry to answer back so late! Thinking about it now one of my passenger door ,push or pull bit of plastic thats located on the window sill does not move so this may interfer with the central locking----- what do you think? Any way thanks for your help, Martin
meriafel
Mine has always worked as follows: Press locking button once to lock all doors and arm the alarm, drivers door light blinks. Press unlocking button once to unlock driver's door ONLY and disable alarm. Press twice to unlock ALL doors and disable alarm. If you fail to press unlocking button twice in reasonably quick succession ie. by leaving a delay, you will still only have unlocked driver's door. You will still then have to press button twice to unlock the rest of the doors. Also if you do any of the above and fail to open any single door within 30 seconds or so the car will automatically lock itself. Remember to change the remote key battery/batteries every year, buying them from a fresh source (dealer prices are extortionate) and I was once told by a dealer not to leave the battery out of the key for 'too long' and not to keep on trying the remote locking time and time again as they had once burnt out the central locking pump by doing this. These pumps are otherwise bombproof. All four of our family VW's 94, 95, 98, 02 are still working perfectly. I left the driver's door open one summers evening when I bought the car, my daughter came home later, closed it, and I subsequently locked it. At 5 am just as it was getting light the alarm went off I presumed caused by the moths inside the car. It has not happened since in over 17 months.
