A4 Avant Armrest Removal and Install

I know that this has been asked before, but could anyone give me a removal and install guide (preferably with pictures!) for an Armrest to fit the B6 A4? Would be greatly appreciated. Someone is going to let me have theirs, and I need to remove it from their car and install it into mine. Does it involve removing the centre console?

I take it you mean the front armrest?

If so, simply remove the rear ashtray, and you will find a bolt, which holds the armsrest in place. IIRC there are a couple but it is pretty obvious which one holds the armrest.

There is also an electrical connector which operates the internal light in the armrest disconnect this, remove the bolt a with a bit of wiggling the armrest will come out, be a little careful as there are two small tabs on the bottom of the armrest which locate it in to the centre console and they look a little fragile.

That's all from memory so it maybe slightly different but it is a very simple job. There will be holes left behind in your friends car though when you have removed the armsrest. I've not seen one without an armrest so don't know what it normally looks like.

I am about to embark on a journey to S4 land but there is no centre armrest, how much are they to buy and have you managet to retro fit it yet.

Any ideas if you will be able to tell the difference as opposed to a factory fit

If you talk to the dealer nicely they might be able to retrofit one as part of the deal 169144-ok.gif

The bracket is part of the armrest.

IIRC (If I recall correctly), is the only abbreviation I know, that's why I use it!

You will probably have to remove the centre console, as I guess there is a panel to "punch out" on the underside of yours where the armrest fits. If you have the same colour centre consoles you could always swap the lot.

I did post a set of instructions on how to remove the centre console a while back, while it was fresh in my mind after I did it last time. I'll try and find it for you.

I looked at taking mine off when I got the car as the lid was broken (didn't know at that time that the lid can be removed without taking the entire armrest off).

One word of warning, try your spanners, socket wrench etc on your mate's car now as I had to go out and buy a new socket set to reach the bolt inside.

It may be easier if the whole console comes up, but I didn't have instructions to do that, and in the end I cobbled it all together by using about six different parts from different socket sets.

I got the instructions from scotty and may have posted them up before, I'll do a quick search, but if not, it may be worth a PM to him.

Kell.

yep, that looks like the part you need. I had assumed it would be installed already, but obviously not.... confused.gif (mine already has armerest and i have taken it all out and refitted with my iPod link inside - do this too if you are planning on putting an iPod in your motor! 169144-ok.gif).

get the bracket, then offer up the armrest to the console and cut away. The hole doesnt need to be neat - the factory Audi ones aint!!!! No need to remove the console - use a small saw. Just make sure you dont do it too big so the armrest wont cover it! grin.gif

Pop through the hole, tighten and bob's your uncle.....

OH - there is also an electrical connector to run the 2 red LED's in the armrest - plug this in too 169144-ok.gif
