garcon magnifique
Just did a quick check on t'interweb... suggest the CTS-V should list at around £45,000. By the time you've specced up an S4 to the same kit level, I suspect there wouldn't be much difference.
P_G
Would be interesting to do one day, however you'd only need a couple of grand difference to pay for the mods and Champagne, I'd imagine there is probbaly that much difference in it. sayerbloke
The Audi S4 is faster around Top Gear's track than a CTS-V... But I thought it was a normal CTS rather than the V they had on the show, so they may have it wrong. And before everyone gets to anti-American cars, lets just point out the Corvette was faster than things like a 911 GT3, a TVR 350C and an M3 CSL, despite costing less
Gothicaleigh
Cadillac CTS-V 400hp@6000rpm 395tq@4400rpm 3850lbs. Audi S4 340hp@7000rpm 302tq@3500rpm 3825lbs. The Top Gear episode I recall seeing had the V soundly beat the S4 on the track and them running it's leader board lap in the rain. http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/video/topgear.html Pure comedy. malagus
New Mustang GT-500 - over 450BHP - closer to 475 in reality. Over 400LbFt torque weighs around 3600 Lbs. cost - Around £22,000 in the US, or $40,000 ish.
sayerbloke
American cars are generally good value for money. Trouble is, most of that is wiped out when they bring them over here. The few they do bring over tend to be almost as expensive as their rivals. Also, our roads aren't big and smooth enough for them and our fuel is too expensive. They aren't really suited to the UK, mores the pity. That said, there's still a selection I'd love to own
NeilB
I'd much rather have the Audi over the Cadillac, and that's from someone who thinks Audi's are.
JamesB
I might be missing something here but why has everyone decided that the CTS-V should be compared with the S4. Why not the M3 or RS4? Or just keep raising the Euro stakes until you find a car that will beat the CTS-V. Then, of course, I'll see your RS4 and raise you a Mustang. They are all good cars and have their own pros and cons. I would be quite happy to have any one of them
HotRodSaint
[ QUOTE ] I would imagine that (in the States at least) the CTS-V is cheaper than an S4. [/ QUOTE ] You can get a manual '06 CTS-V here for about $50,881.00, a manual S4 would run about $47,307.00. In comparison, the '06 M3 is $50,595.00. I'd pay the extra $286.00 over the M3 to get 2 extra doors, 2 extra cylinders and 67 extra HP. The 60 HP verses the S4 is also worth the extra $3574, as that's about how much it'd cost to get the S4 up there. But most important is the value of the CTS-V's 395 torque compared to the S4 302 and the M3 262! But when it comes to the bread and butter sedans, the Japanese make a better product that the Europeans or the Yanks.

NeilB
Very true about the Japs. I like Honda's Mazda's and Scooby's but the odd one out is Toyota for me. The cars to me seem to be so faceless and devoid of passion. Yes it's a good product, but so's the Honda and it seems to of had an engineer that's cared and nurtured it, rather then someone who's worked to a set plan and not deviated from it. The CTS is faster and much more exclusive than an S4 (audis are everywhere over here now) they are like the new BMW which puts me off a lot. P_G
Sorry, I'd have to stick to my S4. I think the CTS-V is a good package and the engine is good, the interior lets it down still a little though. Exclusivity wise it would be better, but then I would probably have a Monaro VXR instead if buying for exclusivity, better than both in that respect and performance wise. If only it had four doors and a decent boot...
