CMC950
Not read the full thread, but Privilage always seem good on quick cars IMO.
fresco1
Muppetboy, dunno if it helps but my neighbour (who has a GTI now, an R32 last year, TDI before that, GTI before that .. etc etc) reckons Norwich Union are the cheapest around. And his wife pranged his GTI last year .... I tried confused.com and Norwich Union came out best. Although my GTI will be garaged and run 10K per annum, I insured it today with NU, including the wife who demolished half a street last year in her new Landie , and including European Cover, NCD etc it was £383.99. Bargain, didn't take long to go for that quote ... I opted for a £520 excess ...
Muppetboy
wow that's cheaper than my current 1.6! I think it was NU that quoted £996 although I'm not sure if that will still stand come early March. Your excess sounds high but I think it's well worth it as I wouldn't make a claim for anything less than 500.
Muppetboy
Another question (never had a new car so bear with me...) I'm currently insured by Halifax and I've already paid until end of June this year. If Halfix quote me something stupid and/or wont match my cheapest quote will they refund the portion from March to June (that I wont be needing) for my current car? Also what happens to my NCB? As I'll have 3 years and 9 months or so come March will my new insurer (if I have to switch) count that as only 3 years? Will my 9 months be lost? Thanks guys! skifly
muppetboy - you need to speak to insurancejon - he helped me out a hell of a lot with my insurance when i got my GTI as i had problems with a previous company broker and my no claims discount. In the end NU were not the cheapest but due to the issues i had Jon worked out it was probably the best option for me. I think you might lose the 9 months somewhere along the line but cant be sure - think you may just have to take the halifax hit and wait the 3 months til you can change and get and extra years NCD. JamesB
I'm not sure insurance Jon comes to the GTi forum that often. Post on General Cars and he's more likely pick it up. However, he won't necessarily point you in a particular direction, just be in a position to offer you a quote. He has a business and gives out more generic insurance advice here for free. You'll also get a lot more opinions - I don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing. You could also do a quick trawl through the General Cars forum and see the answers to other similar threads I've found Privilege good for a few years now, I'm in West London and have had a couple of reasonably quick cars. [/ QUOTE ] I did think of that and I'd be gutted to lose it. If I went with Halifax for 3 months am I then able to opt out and go elsewhere? I guess I would be able to if I see out the insured period... incidentally when I tried a quote from Halifax website they wouldn't even quote me! Will give them a call nearer the time... thanks
JamesB
Sorry, missed that part of the post. As I understand it, you should normally be reimbursed for any period you decide not to use, which is good, but you will go back to 3 yrs NCB as insurance companies are only interested in full years, which is not good. My cheapest quote is with Direct Line, and that's £1050

Neimad
[ QUOTE ] try www.bell.co.uk [/ QUOTE ] Already have... they can't touch Direct Line on the price, and that's too high for my liking.
