B7 A4 Cab - which Sat Nav Unit to Retrofit ?

Its not THAT tricky.... just time consuming. You can get double DIN conversion cages for about £50 from VAG Parts and you will need to do some wiring into the dash wiring loom, ABS unit and some other bits. Pick up double DIN Air Con units of ebay.de and plugNplay wiring harnesses too.

All very well documented over at http://www.navplus.us/

I have opted for the Basic Navigation System (BNS), keeping the concertII and having all directions shown in the DIS. It is pretty much the same functionality as the full blown RNS-E, BUT without the screen / TV / DVD player etc. Have just spend most of the day fitting it and it works a treat! 169144-ok.gif

If your motor is new and money isnt an issue (it was for me!!), go for the RNS-E. 169144-ok.gif

If you convert the dash from single to double din, then the RNS-E is plug and play in an A4, no wires to find, ABS or otherwise.

Converting the dash requires 3 new parts, DIN cage, ashtray and ashtray cover, unlike some of the write ups on here, I always replace the ashtray and cover, so you dont end up with gap below the aircon to lose things down. It may cost slightly more, but the results are worth it, certainly less annoying when your credit card or wallet drops behind the dash. Plus the gap is rather unsightly.

If you want I can price up the whole conversion to RNS-E for you, or follow some of the write ups on here if you want to do it yourself.

I would say the only advantage of my service is the quality of the units I supply, unmarked, not some of the rubbish available on ebay and the 12 montsh warranty I offer if it goes wrong

Craig, just wondering... what's the difference in the ashtrays? Do they have a lip upto the climate unit? I've recently fitted RNS-E but haven't as yet replaced the ashtray. Are they expensive, and do you have to replace both bits, or just the cover?

Good stuff Jon! 169144-ok.gif

Did you get the buttons working on the centre console too?

Still waiting on the console part from Vag Parts, but i have it all installed now and the buttons working, just not installed yet!

At least it has been good to test the unit with, if they dont eventually fit 169144-ok.gif

I have to say the BNS navi system is great! Nice and discrete as there are NO parts on show.

All in, the install will have cost me £250 - price of a TomTom and it has TMC up and running on it now too 169144-ok.gif

Seem to have learnt every bit of wiring in the A4 too.... coffee.gif
