damianmkv
I went into my local dealer at the w/e and had a look at the A4 s-line saloon. Currently my wife drives a 53 plate 320i sport but short journies mean a wallet-sapping 21mpg hence the thought about a diesel. The saleslady very kindly showed me her "bible" and told me the book value ( £1600 higher than BMW offered ) and so I have booked a test drive for 10 days time. The spec I was looking at is 6xCD, folding mirrors, s/roof, heated seats, PDC, rain sensor, 18" 5arms & metallic... I can't work out if floor mats are included or not. And do you really have to pay extra for a lockable glovebox ??? And is an armrest standard ? Is there anything else we should consider ? Sorry for all the Qs.... Sparky
Folding mirrors are a waste IMO as they don't really fold enough. Rain sensors and dimming mirrors are excellent! I thought (unless they've changed it on the B7, but the glovebox locks automatically when the car locked?! Quattro is usually on everyone's list too. Have you considered that option? damianmkv
do the folding mirrors fold like the Golf then ? ie about an inch ? The BMW go pretty much flat to the car.. Haven't considered a quattro, our mileage in this car isn't really high enough ( only done 8.5K in the BMW in 2.1/2 years )
billy2shots
Have you looked at the s line pack. Changes the look totaly.
damianmkv
I am looking at the s-line....although the brochure says there is a choice of "s Line sports package" and a "s line sports packgage plus"...although the price list only mentions "s line model"
billy2shots
They have recently changed what you get in a s line pack so prob best speak to a salesman. Have you tried to config on audi web-site it gets itself in a mix up if you opt for s-line. BMW car config is so much clearer
damianmkv
bloody hell...thought this maybe simple ..oh well I'll have at look at their configurator in a mo... Anyone know what discounts are around ?
billy2shots
Tell them your on your way to the bmw garage to put down a deposit on a 3, but you thought you would pop in to audi on the way. Its easy but it works.
Nelson_R32
Ignore everything you read in the brochure about the S-line package. Its simply translated from a German brochure and doesn't represent what you'll actually get. Personally, I would ditch the Folding mirrors from your spec list and swap it for the Interior light pack (£150.00 option). The armrest is a £150.00 option and do NOT order the car without it. Floor mats are standard fitment on A4's; this isn't a BMW we're talking about remember
damianmkv
EDITTED see what you mean abt the configurator - seems you can't do an s-line like you say. Not only that, but apparently the s-line only comes with heated mirrors and leccy windows - for £750...yeeaaaaah, right I've gone to drivethedeal, uknewcars & broker4cars and the discounts average at £2300...or abt 9%...I'll see how generous they are well i go in

U R right, BMW want 75 quid for mats

homer42
hi damianmkv I purchased an A4 2.0 tdi s-line two weeks ago. Carfile/beechwood audi will give you 9% discount - no problem. As for extras, I concur with NelsonA4sline don't order without armrest and metallic paint. Auto dimming RV mirror and rain sensor is good, although I miss not having the multi-fuction sports steering wheel. hopre this helps
damianmkv
it does - good news about the discount too. £150 for an armrest ??? oh well, if its a must ( 'scuse the "tight arse" approach, I have a Golf which comes with these things..rattles like a bugger but....) [/ QUOTE ] No, I went from Supermini, to two Warm hatches, to a Hot (understatment) hatch and I've just gone to an A4 2.0TDi S-line. Best move I ever made. billy2shots
I know the DTM had a tuned 2litre engine but are they upping the power in all 2litre turbos soon? Also there s talk of a bi turbo 3litre diesal to rival the 535d isnt there.
Nelson_R32
damianmkv - Have you considered the 2.0T Special Edition S-line? You'll get much better town MPG than a BMW due to the FSi and Turbo.
Redavant
Personally if she's only doing short journeys there's no need for the armrest as it just gets in the way of the handbrake. Also you can't get quattro on the 2.0 tdi just the 3.0 Hope this helps.
damianmkv
I have..unfortunately my wife suffers from a very heavy right foot and an ability to leave home 5 minutes after she was supposed to be somewhere else..I think we'd be looking at 30mpg max with her "style" of driving - hence the TDi. I have 2 dealers within 10 miles of home - so good suggestion about playing them off against each other
Redavant
I would also consider the 2.0T petrol as knocking round you'll only get about 35mpg in a diesel.
Sponge
I agree with Red Avant regards the centre arm rest. It doesn't sound like you really need it. I would have liked one, but thought they were taking the piss asking £150 for it. I had one in my last car, but only ever used it on motorway journeys, which were few and far between. All the other times it just got in the way. I felt the same way about the interior light pack, so didn't order it. I have since installed the upper, front LEDs for the princely sum of £10 - that'll do me! I enjoy the low fuel consumption on longer journeys, but like RA says, on the shorter trips (of which I make a lot) I average about 35mpg. So bare this in mind too. You definitely want an S Line with metallic paint. Symphony stereo is a miminum. Rear parking sensors are highly recommended. I think the Avant looks great with privacy glass too. (Less so the saloon, though.) Don't forget the full function trip computer is an option too - many would recommend it. I'm surviving with just 'miles to empty' though. damianmkv
a moment of madness...I didn't really like the diesel clatter - it was as simple as that...funny how things change isn't it ?
