R32TIM
i get a clunking/knoking noise when going over bumps/or turning the wheel which is particularly noticeable at slow speeds. ...arb...or CV joint...(i'm no mechanic) also, Mook gave me details of his VW specialist, but he's a little too far, especially if I have to leave the car with him...does anybody have any garages they use around the Swindon Area... ..but I pass AMD at least once a week, would they carry out the above....me thinks they could upgrade the arb's at the same time.... ..and maybe the haldex controller... Mook
AmD would do the work for you, but you'd have to be prepared to leave the car with them for the day. I have never known them complete a job while you wait, unless you're happy to wait at least half a day... I would doubt it's a CV joint - it sounds like it could be one of the bushes that's worn - could be one of many - ARBs or subframe, or possibly a ball joint. I think you already know, but you won't regret getting the Haldex unit fitted. Don't think AmD carry the ARBs in stock, so call ahead.
Skidmark
My son has just had a service, remap & miltek at AMD [Anni TDI]. He lives in Swindon... so we met up and made a day of it.. drop the car off & meet mid morning... into Oxford for look round and/or long lunch.... back to AMD for rolling road & chat/coffee... good day
Dan32
Could it be the dreaded strut top mounts going? Understand those noises to be a symptom of that fault and if the car is in warranty it would be better for your local dealer to do the work as AMD wouldn't do it gratis. [/ QUOTE ] Had mine done last week at the dealers, also changed the front springs under warranty as well. Symptoms were very similar with a grating sound when manouvering and a slight knocking through a long corner with high loads. Wanted to get the dealer onto the problem b4 having a strut brace fitted just so they couldn't wriggle out of it. Cheers, Simon.

1monty
Be wary of dealerships in Swindon. Had terrible customer service from them a year ago!
deathchurch
I have the same problem when going through long lefthand corners at some speed, can feel a knocking through the steering wheel, doesn't happen through right handers though. Took it into the dealers and they suggested swapping the front and back tyres, but that made no difference at all. Should I get them to look at the strut top mounts? Does the dogbone mount (bottom one) look torqued or sitting way to close to the bottom of the engine (like only 1-2mm clearance)? If so - definitely get the mounts checked. deathchurch
The dealer just rang up and said they only thing they could find were worn driver side door hinges and they will replace them under the warranty. Have checked the bushes, mounts and struts all ok, and they only found a tiny bit of play in the gas shock. Anyhow, they are replacing the door hinges and then taking it back out tomorrow to see if that has cured the knocking noise.
