bingleychop Posted March 26, 2006 Report Share Posted March 26, 2006 Hi, I have an 03 plate A4 Cab 1.8T Sport and have done about 60,000 in it. Over the last few weeks I have notice a few drops of water leaking in where the roof joins the top of windscreen on the drivers side and is leaking straight onto my seat. This has developed over the last week or so into water literally draining out into the car when it has been raining until it appears that there is no more stored up there. I have spoke to Audi and they aren't interested in looking at it on the warranty as it is just out of it and even for a new rubber seal I am looking at £220 before it is fitted. I have checked the seal all the way round and it appear fine, I have also sprayed some silicon onto it and it has stopped the occasional creak but water is still getting in. Can anyone tell me if there is anything that I need to apply to the hood itself to keep it waterproof as it has had nothing on it since new. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Can anyone help? I am just trying to explore all options before having to send it in to Audi and allow them to stick it up me so to speak good and proper!! I have taken it to an independant specialist and they won't touch it as it is still a new car in their opinion! Please help!! Fed up of getting wet every time I brake! Ari Posted March 26, 2006 Report Share Posted March 26, 2006 Hi, Actually the one thing we never seem to hear of (till now) is leaks on Audi Cabs. The only experience I've ever had was once when the car was parked for a fortnight in London. The first time I drive it I had a few drops come through just where you are finding it, in the righthand corner. Dropped onto my knee as I drove it. Never happened since and I'd forgotten about it till you mentioned it. Pretty poor of Audi not to look at it as is a fairly big issue and only just out of warranty. I'd go for Audi Customer Service as politely but firmly as possible along the lines of you know it's just out of warranty but surely they expect a car of this calibre to stay watertight for more than 3 years? As far as I know there are no treatments necessary for the roof, although there are waterproofing kits you can buy from places like Halfords I believe. Not sure if it'd help though as it sounds like your leak is coming in where the front of the roof meets the header rail. Oh, and welcome to the forum. Phantom Posted March 26, 2006 Report Share Posted March 26, 2006 I had the same problem with mine a couple of weeks ago, admittedly in heavy rain. I had a few drops coming it at the top of the windscreen as you describe. I had a look and I think it may be the small rubber 'seal/guttering' which may be causing the problem. This seal looks as though it could perish, especially when it is exposed to the sun with the roof down. It is located at the top corner of the windscreen and the roof locates down into it. Unfortunately the drips fall directly onto the window controls in the door which is frustrating I personally don't think treating the roof will improve the problem but there are a few threads on here about how to clean the roof and treat occasionally. UBM Posted March 26, 2006 Report Share Posted March 26, 2006 Try treating the roof with either turtle wax cleaner and roof treatment or the auto glym equivalent. At least the water should bead from the roof and not soak in. What about a bit of grease instead os silicone spray? It is bigger and may plug the gap, and of course resists water! I've had the roof down for a bit and been for a drive earlier today (when the weather was nicer) and now it is pouring it down but there is now no leak which tells me it might be more of a mechanical problem. But having just said that I can pretty much guarantee that as it rains overnight it is going to start leaking again just in time for me to drive to work in the morning!! I really should start parking it in the garage!! Something tells me that I am going to have to bite the bullet and get it down to Audi and appeal to their better nature and see if I can get some warranty treatment. Daz Posted March 26, 2006 Report Share Posted March 26, 2006 I had the same problem with mine and they replaced the rubber that goes down the door / windscreen frame. There's a channel in it which can get blocked sometimes. Maybe worth trying to carefully push some stiffish wire down the hole at the top and see if the channel is blocked. [/ QUOTE ] You get what you pay for mate. AG stuff is amongst the best you can buy... surely a) Keeping the fabric in excellent condition b) maybe saving £300+ at a stealership out weighs the £19!! I bit the bullet this morning and dropped it off at Leeds Audi for the to 'inspect' the problem. Turns out that the roof just needed adjusting and tightening up - apparently they spotted the problem straight away and it is all ok now. They gave it a 'free' valet too. The adjustment was not covered by my non existent warranty so I've had to fork out just over £100 for it - at least my jacksie will be dry now on the way to work in the morning or at least we will see when it rains next overnight!!
