I also took the mk5 on a test drive today with out a sales man which was a bonus .It was a manual but not over imprested .Well i say that but if i did'nt have the mk4 and the mk5 was my first r32 then wow what a car But !!

To me the engine seamed about the same to drive as mk4,the car felt softer on the back end and not so sporty, also i felt as if i was much higher up in the seat.

I thought the inside was not as special at all like the mk4 yes it might be a bit dated now but when i saw the mk4 for the first time i loved it all it was love at first sight.

The seats were ok but just ok.

Don't get me wrong its a great car but not the r32 it should be.

Will not be upgrading to the same car for 10k more but would get one if it was my first r32 .

Exactly how I felt....oddly aggree about sitting higher. Borrowed my Mums MK5 TDi a few months back when I was getting the charger installed and remember thinking how high it was, but at least the R32 would be a good bit lowered....felt today like I was back in the TDi height wise again...

I honestly think that the gti would make more sense, if I was going for that MK4R32 type of driving experience.

The Mk4 is a lot more "raw" and hardcore than the MK5 R32,the MK5 is a lot more civilised, and easier to live with, and almost seems slower than the MK4,due to it's more comfortable ride and much lower cabin noise levels.

That being said, it is a bloody fast motor, deceptively fast, I think that is why JC decided that the Beemer series 1 M, would be faster round a track, mistakenly of course!

I just think the gti is more of a "raw" driving experience, and would appeal more to a MK4 owner looking to change cars, that would be my choice if having to spend the bucks, and be looking for more of a "seat of your pants" drivers car, well that or an ultra cheap performance car for the bucks, an ST!

....The only trouble with that is that I expect that a Mk4 R32 owner would greatly miss the 4WD traction and V6 music (unless they had Millteks of course! grin.gif).

Hi Oli,

Have you fitted Millteks already!? If so, you'll hear more 'music' from the Non-Resonated version and they'll take time for the sound to mature. Might only be a 4-pot and not a glorious V6 but Millteks bring out the best sound a 4-pot can deliver imo.

Sorry to digress.

SCRUB ALL THE ABOVE! - Wrong person (sorry, Dom)
