m4t
The missus has a mk4 1.8t and was broken into last night through the drivers door lock, windows down, door unlocked etc. i knew this was a weakness but didn't think it would happen to us, you never do. i would advise everyone to replace their drivers side door handle with a rear one with no lock. Will be putting the word about so if i catch them.......
Snail
Bad luck mate...very sorry to hear that. On a plus not, its slightly better than the story in the paper about the couple who had some thieves break into their house, and threaten their kid, if they didnt hand over the keys to their cars (merc ML, and volvo 4x4)......especially as the police took over 30 minutes to arrive, even though they were called by a neighbour as the thieves broke in. [/ QUOTE ] yer read about this in last night local paper...i live about 10 mins away from where it happened! and my brother inlaw lives in the next road to them! thats got to be the worst thing to happen to someone in the middle of the night, nevermind the fact the cars where stolen....the family must be devastated and shaken up big time. the police sound like they where as good as they normally are aswell, taking half n hour to arrive. whats the world coming to..... m4t
I spoke to VAG today and the problem doesnt exist on 2001 cars and newer but i wont be taking any chances. the lock barrells can be changed for alloy insterts and caps which gives it the delocked look. all for £3.50 per door from VAG. Colin M
Thanks for the tip. My Golf (bought from a mate) has already had the drivers lock chewed up by a monkey with a screwdriver. The remote locking works properly so I'm off to VW to pick up some barrel blanks to tidy the car and prevent a repeat.
