Radar Jammers / Detectors

I'm taking part in a London - Monaco event this summer, anyone have any advice for the best speed detectors / jammers I can buy for the money specifically to use on the French motorway? I don't do crazy speeds, but I don't like to hang around either.

I've been stopped many a time in France for speeding but even at only £60 a time it mounts up a bit and I'm considering a jammer.

Anyone reccomend something?

OK, one important question first:

Do you only want answers containing legal solutions? The French, as I'm sure you're aware, have different regulations to the British regarding such equipment.

grin.gif be very careful, from my last information being caught in France with any sort of radar/laser detector (let alone jammer) can lead to the device being confisgated and a 750euro fine EEK2.GIF

Yeah I'd expect as much! That said, every time I've been stopped (including once being done for some silly speed (speedo was about 135-140)) they didnt even look in the car, just proceeded to write a ticket and ask for cash!

I had a collegue have his car confiscated a few years back in France due to a radar detector...surely the fine was huge! i had a place in Switzerland and did the drive from the UK to geneva yearly and I would NEVER use a radar detector! Having been stopped numerous times in France doing silly speeds, I would rather pay the French police (used to be no more than 100 Euros) than risk getting caught with a speed detector and parting with 750 Euros and potentially your car!!

Thats a good point, €750 is more than 8 times being stopped for speeding with €90... and that aint gonna happen!

I drove my Carrera 4S over from Geneva a couple years ago and got stopped doing about 130mph and I thought I was in for it. All they did was give me an 80 or 90 Euro fine and told me not to drive such a powerful car next time!!! They were actually pretty friendly considering! Quids in mate!

grin.gif it all depends what speed you get stopped doing whilst in France as the fine is now on a sliding scale - if you're caught at more than 50kph over the posted limit you can get a 750euro fine and instant license suspension....

I've been stopped many, many times for speeding, the lowest being 137km/h in a 110 and the highest being 226km/h in a 130 (oops!).

The police are always utterly friendly, get confused at what type of car it is, and then proceed to show me they are allowed to give me a fine of several hundred Euros but always put my speed down on the form as 167km/h which is the cut off between the 90 Euro fine and the 350 Euro fine smile.gif

So how come its only us Brits that get a pasting in this country ??

Because we have cameras - and they have cops - you can talk to a face but not a 3 day old photograph, and in 3 days the visitor has long gone and they never get followed up.
