CactusGreen
I have a last run B5 2.4SE tip from March 01 that is due it's 3rd AVS. I see under the bonnet a sticker that suggests changing the cam at 75K, the guide says 80K, Every dealer I've spoken to has a differt answer ....the car has only done 55K...do I get this changed because it's 5 years old, just looked at....which probably means change it....or do nothing, as it was only me that asked the question....not the service guys... rball
I've had similar experiences! AMD told me 60k, Audi told me 75k and a local dealer said my engine code pointed at 120k! I haven't done it yet but I imagine is worth getting done sooner rather than later based on the consequences if it does snap! My s3 is a 2000 and done almost 70k... JonnyB
hi there well if you talk to any decent mechanic or dealership they should say the recommanded miles or every 3 years does that help???
Tobes49
At the end of the day, It far cheaper to replace the belt than to have it fail. Cost to replace will be upto £400 cost of a belt failing £1000>£4000, I know which one the better option.

jwo
audi have quoted me £425 including vat for new belt and water pump on mine (the price came down from £517 after i asked 'best price'). AvantSE
Just had mine done, 2.0 engine, was due at 115K! Got it done early at 110K, with water pump. Just waiting for the bill...

jwo
1.9tdi 130bhp sitting in an a4 avant sport 2003. The dealers seem to know that the specialists have raised their prices somewhat so that they are around £100 cheaper - now it seems that audi will almost price match to get the work (and they have even included the coolant in the price!!!!). Crash
Changed mine at 48k. The bearings on the waterpump have gone (just bear ticking over) - so they insisted in replacing the belt as well as the waterpump. Costed around £360 (if I remember correctly). Mines a 2000 A4 B5 2.4SE manual.

AvantSE
Cambelt + tensioner + waterpump + alternator tensioner bearing replaced... £428 at an independent garage. Unfortunately they didn't see fit to replace the alternator belt like I told them.
Wrax
Same deal with my 1.8T Sport A4.. had three different dealers tell me three different mileages!! Found one who was more concientious and took my VIN and looked things up and told me 110K. Was only on 70K when was being told I needed it changing.. now on 90K!!! I think the Stealers are like insurance companies they prey on peoples fear!! At the end of the day I guess it depends how you drive and if you look at it occasionally for wear and tear.... and how much risk as an individual you are prepared to take ;-)
peterb
I wish the dealers would get their facts straight! I spoke to Audi Customer Services to get info on belt change interval for the RS6 - it's every 3 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes sooner. Most dealers seem to believe that it's 40,000 with no time limit. I tried to convince my dealer that the belt change was due - they only checked the facts and agreed with me when I went to pick the car up after its 3-year service (and presented me with an invoice with "cambelt change due at 40,000 miles" printed on it!). I asked for a quote for the cam belt - £1100!
4RingsDH
To all, Audi have just introduced a 4 year change interval of cambelts irrespective of mileage on the whole range! I assure you this is TRUE. It does not apply to those vehicles that have no change interval i.e. A3 1.6 (8L chassis). So for all low mileage users dont think that your 5 year old Audi will be subject to goodwill if your cambelt fails. Audi have been known to change reccomended change intervals in the past, which is the most likely reason for garages to give different change intervals when quized. However Audi always publish latest information for the main dealers reference. Please contact me directly with any queries. sitas3
hmm.. think I might get mine done soon then as I'm at 60k and 4 years now. Been hearing of quite a few going recently on the S3/TT - APS told me today they have repaired 3 costly failures very recently (indeed there was one on the ramp awaiting a new engine whilst I was there today), there's another in my local Audi dealer plus a few on the forums. Not good.
