The new Aston's are more common than the Bentley GTs.

Keep seeing these new Astons, (and I am having difficulty telling them apart)

Is it the expensive one has the LED day running lights?

However, they look OK, so all is good. Would rather have the Bentley though - just beacuse it looks better and has much more road presence........... 169144-ok.gif

The Conti GT blows the Anarge into the weeds!

I wrote a review HERE if you're interested in my thoughts after driving both.

The Arnarge is probably the only one of new Bentley’s you can still call a Bentley. VW just haven't got the point of the company. It seems like a situation with the BBC and Graham Norton “Great we’ve got him, but what do we do with him?!?”

You just get the feeling that the guy who designed them didn’t have a mix of Magnatec and Optimax in his blood, and simply designed it to be a car, rather then a Bentley.

I’m not a fan of German cars, but BMW have got to so right with Rolls Royce. It looks and Feels like a Roller should do. So you have got the best of both worlds German engineering along with the character of one of the most luxurious carmakers in the world. I thought I would never say this, but I’d have the Roller over a Bentley if I was given the choice of the two.

So VW got it wrong did they?

Funny that, i've seen more Bentley GT's on the road in the last two years than in the rest of my life x10! confused.gif

It's debatable whether VW have got Bentley right or wrong. To suggest that they have done right simply because they are selling more cars with Bentley badges on them completely misses the point of what Bentley Motors is about, IMO.

In my opinion, VW have done the marque proud by introducing new technology into the ageing (and still, thankfully, exclusive) Arnage. But I'm not so sure about the VW Continental GT/Flying Spur... it's an awesome engine, but to this particular old git it's not a proper Bentley. Bentleys were better when they were entirely handbuilt and sold in hundreds.

I will own a Bentley one day. But it'll be a proper Red Label Arnage, not one of these new fangled VW things... tongue.gif

I think I would prefer the Arnage to the Conti GT as well. Although, if you can afford the Arnage, then you can afford them both.

However, VW did have to do something, to bring the age range down, and broaden the appeal! Which has worked.

If the range didn't sell, VW would be off and the marque would die, so it had to be successful to keep Bentley afloat.

They did get the power/torque bit right, BMW didn't with the Green Label things.

As with Aston, lower priced cars means more people buy them. And then you have all the associated stuff about being common (hence the thread) and not proper etc etc.

On another note - nothing beats the Azure.......... 169144-ok.gif

Well I can happily say I wouldn’t have either of them.

The Arnarge is a bad car. Its cramped in the front, has tiney doors, is noisy at speed, the rear seats don’t adjust and they sagg if you do more than 10 miles a week in them. The front dash looks really very old fashioned now. And with a price tag of 160k you can get a 2nd hand Phantom with 20k miles if you want to be flash or a Maybach of a similar year and mileage if you don’t. I can only imagine people that buy the Arnarge are either very loyal and nostalgic customers or are just buying for the brand.

The Conti is a good car, but is boring and has lost some of the pedigree. Its heavy, slow, ugly and overpriced compared to the equivalent mercs, but there is a market for people who want something a bit more special so I can understand these cars...

In a rover 25 or the car looks like one? Inside the car its pritty pimped, poo loads of leather and wood, they haven’t skimped, its very solid. But wood and leather doesn’t interest me id get an S600, be much more comfortable and go much faster 169144-ok.gif

If you buy an Arnage you're buying proper Bentley heritage - not a 'brand', that's far too fashion conscious. As you say, it's a completely outdated car and you'd only spend £160k+ on a new Arnage if you refuse to consider 'lesser' alternatives.

When I buy an Arnage (or maybe a late Turbo RT - that really is proper pre-VW, pre-BMW Bentley heritage) I'll be spending £10-15k or so. Fifteen years old, specialist maintained, only brought out of the garage for those special occasions... that's when a Bentley starts to make sense.

Course not, Although there is a dealership near me in Wednesbury. I wonder if they allow 21 years olds on a test drive. 169144-ok.gif

The new ones just leave me cold and unwanted, yes it may well have a great engine with oddles of torque. But to me a car has to make you feel wanted or have character. But I wonder if people would have a different opinion of the new Bentley's if VAG wasn't behind them...

I suspect your opinion might be somewhat different if you'd experienced one first hand.

Dont be silly nobs! the_finger.gif There is nothing to test drives. Just book it ahead, come in, talk finance or car tax, go through options (if its a new car), then take the fecker out. They want to sell a car, it shouldn't matter how old you are. Now if the car is a left hooker there are sometimes problems with insurance (over 25) and some Fezza dealerships may want you to be over 25, but go to a specialist like Romans and do enough blagg and you'll be insured on an Enzo. Its nothing to do with popping by in a Maybach (thats not my car remember!), I go in the Golf... coffee.gif act like you are worth the car and they will think you are. If they dont feck em there are many other places that could want your business. 169144-ok.gif
