chasdrury
Hi guys Back in February a blokey from the Audi dealers drove my car and suggested that my clutch was on its way out... Booked it in Audi said the clutch was on its last legs... 10k miles later, not slipped once, and then today I am driving park and an hour later come back to my car and when I start to drive the car judders as I lift the cluctch up, and its nearly impossible to get it into second.... and the clutch biting point is higher than usual and the clutch pedal feels really 'loose'..... Now, do we reckon this is the clutch thats going or another problem? Audi quoted me £850 for a new one, and the local VW/Audi specialists (Swifts in Sheffield) quoted £500.... The car is under warranty, will it be ok going to the non Audi franchise? Cheers Chaz
Sparky
Not sure if taking it to Swifts would invalidate the warranty or not, but if you do decide to stick with Audi for the work, try Huddersfield mate, they're 100 times better.
chasdrury
Not sure if the car will make it to Huddersfield It does sound like the clutch has packed in doesn't it??!
Ian_C
Never quite understood how using a specialist to change a part that is specifically excluded in the warranty [being a wear-and-tear item] would invalidate the 'factory warranty.' As long as you use an OE - or manufacturers suppliers sourced part direct - you should be fine. Ian
chasdrury
Yeah, it will be OE parts they use, just half price labour!! Chaz
shark_90
Why don't you go for an aftermarket clutch? Might cost a little more (or with some parts less!) and get "more" for your money. I can't imagine there's a lot a dealer could invalidate a warranty on over a clutch.
chasdrury
Aftermarket clutch!! hmmm.... like the sound of that? You got any links in your vast list of A4 related favourites Shark??!! Chaz
shark_90
It's something I've never looked into mate, so unfortunately not. Maybe I should though, as one of the techs at APS suggested mine might be on its way out
AZURES3
How many miles has the orginial clutch covered. AZ

SPLiiX
If the clutch "feels loose" would it not just be clutch fluid??? Seems very low mileage for the clutch to go!!! I,ve done 33k
chasdrury
Well, not sure really. How can I check that? would the fluid cause the car not to engage in second properly? Chaz
Sparky
[ QUOTE ] Never quite understood how using a specialist to change a part that is specifically excluded in the warranty [/ QUOTE ] Agreed, but you might want to tell Peter Guilder Audi that, as it was specifically pointed out to me on hand-over that such work must be done by Audi while still under the 3 year warranty, in order to maintain it. SPLiiX
Chasdrury, I must admit, I aint got a clue where the Clutch fluid is. I check all my levels about once a month but you got me there.

[/ QUOTE ] Whenever I ask Swifts about something they go on about block exemption in Europe or something which means that Audi by law cannot void a warranty if OEM patrs have been used? Not sure if they are talking though! Chaz
Sparky
No you're right, Block Exemption is supposed to allow you to take your car anywhere. Swifts are very good.
