Feels Slow!!!!!!

I'm loving the R32 i really am. But it just feels....well...um a bit slow...it seems to pull ok/well to a certain point. I've come from a Boxster S and before that a M Coupe so i know it should be slower than those two but it doesnt feel fast....it really doesnt. My buddy was in his BMW 328 Touring in front today and i could stay with him but in fairness i didnt have a lot left...really. It has a milltek but i'm needing more power....will a REVO remamp really make a noticeable difference....???

I'm in danger of being dissappointed and need some reassurance confused.gif

Not sure if MkIV or MkV, but would get the MAF checked - a common fault on the MkIV (all Golfs) IIRC and could have the same effect on the MkV.

If not then how hard have you pushed the engine ? Only really got going for me at about 3k miles - and feels reasonably rapid now at 6.5k. Last car was Impreza WRX so can compare 270bhp/260lb ft to a supposed 250/235 quite easily.

To be honest, mine doesn't feel that fast also(only 1k miles) - i think its the smoothness though. I also have come from a Boxster S. A few cars ago I had an Impreza WRX - and once I'd got used to that it did'nt feel fast.

Always want more power eh.

You wanna drive my week car - an auto disco3 DIESEL, now thats what you call SLOW. When I get in the 32 at the weekend it feels monster fast till I get used to it then think 300 brake would be nice!

MAF sensor problem could be a possible cause i suppose...how can i check???? It is still under warranty!

[/ QUOTE ]

IIRC it is possible to take MAF sensor readings via the OBD port (e.g. VAGCOM) which will show how much volume of air is being allowed through. This volume needs to be at a certain level - the readings will show whether the sensor needs replacing.

Indeed you can - This link may be helpful:

Or the rule of thumb way is to disconnect the MAF connector wire (once the engine is running to avoid the CEL coming on) & see if it runs the same/better as it should run a lot worse with the MAF disconnected

Hi mate and with regards the 6463, when i bought my MK4 R32 it had some flat spots especially in 3rd and it was really annoying but after posting the problem here on TSN i was told to ask my stealer for the 6463 remap. They claimed to have never heard of it !!!!!!!!! but after proving it does exist they did it under warranty and it cleared up all the problems i was having. I have no other mods at all and just love my car to bits. Get it done mate and you will immediately notice the difference mate 169144-ok.gif

I have come from an M3 and the Mk5 R32 feels like a slug. If anybody wants to make me an offewr it will go and I will be back in an M3. I feel gutted but its the truth.

That docent surprise me. When I first got mine it really felt slow but it does loosen up... alot. In fact im now at 47k miles and the last time i drove an M3 i was very disappointed in fact. I drove a CSL again a couple of weeks ago and before say 80mph i think there is little difference between the 2 cars!!!

But the M3 has about 100 bhp more so I guess it would feel slow in comparision ROLLEY~14.GIF

If performance was what you were after then why trade an M3 for an R32? If you asked me to swap my R32 for an M3 then id have to laff as its a real "later in life" chav car. Faster than a standard R32, no doubt, but doesnt even register on the "Cool wall" im afraid ECLIPSe.gif

A remap and exhaust will make a nice gain, thats for certain. It will make the standard set up feel lame to be honest, so it's worth the outlay.

But it is unreasonable to expect M3 or boxster S type accelleration from an R32. Even with a remap and exhuast or mega mileage!

M3's are so rapid from 4-7k revs, it makes the R32 feel totally underwhelming,

Where the R32 scores is it's low to mid range urge.
