A4 Purchase advice please

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and new to the idea of purchasing an audi. I'm interested in the A4s, but at the moment my knowledge of them is based on colleagues experiences and testimonies only, which include 06 RS4, 04 S4 & Yreg 1.8T.

Now they all state that they are extremely happy with them, but at the same time they have a bit more cash floating around than me. I have around 13K available to spend, fuel costs are not too much of worry due to company fuel card, but i will do 20k pa.

I've been considering a 2002, 3.0 quatt sport for about £12.5k with a low mileage. Is this actually a good version of the model to consider? Ride, Handling, Weight?

Should I steer clear of these? Will the maintenace costs be higher than other models, 2.0T perhaps??

Are there some general defects that seem to occur to the A4s after a certain period / mileage that might influence a purchase with a smaller budget??

Your thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Richard

Welcome thesatato! beerchug.gif

The 3.0 quattro would probably give you 25mpg max and the same year 2002 1.8T about 35mpg.

The 3.0 will be good fun, but don't dismiss the 1.8T. See if you can test drive both.

Have you thought about the 1.9TDI 130?

In my mind the one for you to go for would be the 1.8T (190bhp) S-line or Gmbh Sport versions. (0-60 in about 8 secs I think)

The Sline and Sport have a nice subtle body kit, excellent suspension set up and sports seats etc on the inside. All in all a very nice car.

Quick look shows a few 2004 Quattro Slines available for £16000 with low miles, so a FWD 1.8T S-line should be available with a few more miles in your price range.

These should also be covered by a little bit of warranty, although most things that go wrong should have been fixed by now.

So remember Sport or S-Line..... superb cars!

You might condsider the diesel Slines too, excellent cars that seem to do HUGE mileage....

Good Luck!

HI There,

If you can get a quattro car I would recommend it, especially in the sport models as the suspension setup and the seats tend to be a little more supportive! The sport models do tend to have a little less creature comforts such as the drivers computer etc but this can all be fitted as an extra if required!

As fuel costs are not really an issue then you will find a much greater choice! Ideally whatever you get would need to have FSH, either audi but specialist is just as good as there are a lot of good specialist centres about.

HTH and I have no doubt that if you have any more queries they will be answered here!

Paul
