Ruppe
Hello fellow TSN’ers As I am going to move from England to Madrid (Spain), I was wondering if you guys could advise me which option would be the best regarding the sale of my beloved R32. In 2004 I bought a new LHD MkIV R32 DSG in Denmark and brought it over here immediately. I have been very impressed by the R32 and especially the DSG. The sad day has come where I need a diesel for the long motorway distances in Spain. This means that the R32 has to go and it leaves me a few options. Should I bring it to Spain as it is a LHD car - but how is the second hand market there for the R32? Another option would be to try and sell it in the UK as it is already registered here. To my knowledge there is only one other MkIV R32 DSG with UK license plates (TonyMac) out of a total of 600. Where should I try to sell a LHD car in the UK? Also, how much do you reckon it is worth? 2004 (53) and 38.000km - 3-door in Moonlight Blue Metallic with DSG and cruise control as options. Cheers for any feedback Adam

robin09
I may be wrong, but I've heard the second hand car market in Spain is quite poor. People tend to buy new and keep them forever. You see some very dusty Twingo's.
Woppum
I would have thought it would be worth circa £1k+ less than a UK spec R32. Not just because it is a lefty, but also because I would imagine many UK dealers would be slightly slumped with what to do with it when it goes in to the shop... I know the Mk5 uses the DSG, but is it the same??? Unless someone really wants it, I would imagine the situation isnt that good im afraid... I know I would never take the risk... Ruppe
Many thanks for your comments I do not know the Spanish market but heard that cars in general tend to hold their value slightly better than in UK. Another thing going for it is that it seems I will not need to pay the extra 12% registration tax as I am emigrating. On the other hand it would be nice to do without the long driving trip down there and instead start on a fresh. Regarding service in the UK, I have been able to get all the DSG model specific software updates (7700) regarding "hesitation" done here as it is already on their CD-roms - though I had them working to find it. They also swiftly changed the dual clutch 6 months ago as a precautionairy measure (my two year warranty was running out) Do you guys know any good LHD car specialists? tonymac
Hello Adam, I just made a quick search of www.mobile.de to check the value of MkIV's DSG's in Germany, here are a few examples to give you a guide price of whats yours is worth..(in germany anyway!!) Silver DSG 32,000Km 24,845 Euros (£17,210) Black DSG 56,000Km 23,450 Euros (£16,241) Black DSG 52,400Km 22,291 Euros (£15,438) DBP DSG 22,500Km 25,500 Euros (£17,661) using 1.44384 Euro's to 1 GBP. So, at a guess I'd say your is worth approx £16,300 & £17,000, minus approx £1,000 for the fact it's LHD. But you could look at it another way, it's one of only approx 600 R32 DSG's worldwide, so it makes it rather unique and it is UK registered. Good luck with whatever you decide. Ruppe
Many thanks for your great research Tony Mac I will try to sell it here for 10 days and otherwise bring it to Spain. I have found a R32 DSG for sale at 28000 Euros in Madrid (they have an additionally 12% registration tax). For the UK I have now priced it slightly cheaper than Germany as it is a very limited model. Maybe there is a British enthusiast out there regretting not to have a MkIV DSG I will try to put it up here as well as Pistonheads - does anyone have an idea of other places to advertise it? Is it worth putting at Autotrader and recieving a bunch of fake buyers?
rjgreen4
Can you not ebay it as there will be a broader market ant it might appeal to an international person who resides in the UK but chooses not to drive RHD. Also if you took it to a dealer they would slash the price and go for rock bottom if you were to sell it to them, I doubt that they would be able to shift it. Ruppe
Thanks to rjgreen4 for your sugestion Only trouble is that I am a complete Ebay novice and have never sold anything on there. Selling a R32 as the first thing together with my dodgy English would make the situation a bit suspect for the buyer - or what Well I have put it in the classifieds here and reduced the price to £15700. If it is not sold end of next week I will take it to Spain.
