I disagree. The BMW looks, well, plain and ugly.

The RS4 has an ugly mouth and an uncomfortable balance head on, but its far nicer looking than the M3 spyshots.

The Lexus, well I think it's got good lines by the look of those photo's and I think if you take the badges off the cars above, gave everyone amensia, and then asked them...you'd get a different outcome.

I agree. I'm not a follower of any particular make and I'd say the RS4 is the best looking, then the Lexus. I'm a fan of the M5, but the new 3-series just doesn't do it for me in the way the old one did. The M3 would struggle to make it onto my shopping list. frown.gif

I dont think that will be the case, most of the Uber Mercs are very deft handlers now. The CLS is supposed to be 9.5/10 handler of the M5 and I know from my own experience that cars like the S class IMO are better than teh equivalent Audis at both handling and accelerating (W12 vs S600)...

the new 63 AMG versions are the reaosn I asked. I had a neighbour with a C55 and he did say it handles like a barge in corners and despite the engine, wasn't that rapid.

However from what I read in various places the new 63 AMG versions of newer platform Mercs are supposed to be a lot better and I wonder whether a Brabus version, although technically not mainstream production, would be a serious rival to a new M3 or RS4?

Don't know personally as I've never drive a Merc except the SLK which was OK, but didn't make me want to buy one.

If you take the kidney grille of the new 3 series it looks sort of a volvo/saab/evo hybrid type thing.

If Lexus can make the inside of the car less suited to the American market i.e. fake/cheap plastic walnut dash and let you hear the engine sing, rather then your hair growing then they could be onto better sales in the EU.

There is no point in thinking Brabus your talking over 100k for their C class!!!

However teh C63 should be the same price if only a little more than the RS4 and will be alot quicker. If the new S-class is anything to go by it should be very nice inside too, and with a 6.3 ltr engine it could well sound the best.

Due to its wieght though and its more serious badge I wont be intrested. Im too young for a merc tongue.gif

RacingRed doesn't like Lexus. RacingRed doesn't like Acura or Infinity either. RacingRed is intelligent enough to know that they are all marketing division constructs designed to fool Americans into believing that they are not driving a Toyota, Honda or a Nissan. RacingRed feels that is contemptible, better to display pride in ones company identity than hide it. It's not just an attitude applied exclusively to oriental manufacturers either, RacingRed would not have considered a Vauxhall Monaro, because of the rebadging, he would rather have had a Holden badged car, it would pander to his sense of superiority being owner of a rare unusual brand. Am I the only one to think like that?

I also object to the Maserati MC12, I'd rather the Enzo have been homologated for racing, Maserati should be concentrating on following Aston Martin's example in the GT segment rather than rebadging a Ferrari for racing. It's not an objection to component sharing across brands, but an objection to fraudulent badging. I find it patronising.

Take Honda as an example. If I was buying a sportsbike from them then I'd want the Honda FireBlade, I wouldn't be so silly as to want it badged Acura FireBlade, I apprectiate that Honda makes an excellent bike and would not have a problem with the badge. Same attitude applies to their cars, a Honda S2000 would be fine with me, they don't need to re-name it Acura BB* Type-R.

I think the Japanese brands should have a bit more pride in their badges and in their capabilities. Make of that what you will, just an opinion.

Thorburn feels RacingRed sounds like a bit of a tit when he talks about himself in the third person.

As for your point, so would you never buy a Skoda, Seat, Bentley, or an Audi A3 then as they are all just rebadged VW's. I mean the Continental GT is just a Phaeton underneath.

In fact what car these days isn't another one under the skin?

Bizarre comment.

I may be in the minority but i'd buy a skoda RS4, or a lada M3.

IMO you have to be very seriously insecure if you worry about the name on the front of whatever you drive.

I buy a car based on a few criteria: Performance, ride, handling, comfort (seats), Value, technology, exterior style - pretty much in that order. The things to look for in each category will be specific to each buyer, mine are effective, smooth, great, good, good, good. (and 4 doors, 4WD and a good boot)

And yes i'll buy a Toyota IS500 if it makes it to the UK at a competitive price.

So why did you choose the car you drive?

I think most people would think that the RS4 and the new M3 look and seem like a more exciting package than that Lexus:

Not me. The M3 looks japanese/korean and butt ugly too. The Lexus makes me want to go and get my slippers. The BM just makes me want to throw up. Flush.gif
