Dave
I want to install a covert web cam at one of my shops, that runs 24/7. How do i need to set it up so i can log on and view from another PC, without the staff being aware that i am watching? They will of course know that the camera is there, but i want to view it at different times.
loafer27
how about a networkable one ? a bit more pricey than a regular webcam but much more flexible http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?page=7596&head=
Dave
Would i need a server to run it off?
shark_90
You can buy them now with a web server built in, so you can view the video in real time in a web page, all without a server. Great for security cameras etc. Look for IP cameras, a decent one will cost you £100-£

Dave
Be interesting to know if anyone knows any differnt, but the camera would watch the sales area and shop area. Nothing to do with staff rooms or stock rooms.
Thorburn
I believe you need some signs stating that there are cameras in the area.
Big_Dan
We use Axis cameras (£120 each) and some server software which was about £400 which can record up to 9 cameras. You can set recording times and patterns and set hotspots to record when motion is detected - which is buffered. Works really well, the recordings are clear and we have nice footage of one of our artics being stolen, and a plasma walking out the side door ... You can also access them remotely "live" over the 'net, and they can record across a WAN as well.
pingpongpo
You have to have signs saying that there is CCTV recording in progress clearly visable to anyone who walks in.
