shengen
I have a 98 2.8 quattro with standard 5 spoke 16" alloys, now this may seem thicj but I'm going to ask anyway, if I upgrade to say 17 or 18 inch allloys will it not screw up the gearing for the speedo and make the car read slower than it is actually going or does the lower profile tyres take up the slack Im confused
Dave
Yes, if you go up a size in alloy then you usually run a lower profile tyre, so the actaul radius of the wheel remains the same.
shao_khan
Welcoem to Tyresmoke Shengen. As Dave said the different tyres compensate for the different wheel sizes, so any differences you do get will be minimal. Potentially you could also end w=up with slightly quicker acceleration or better top speed The Tyresize calculator on Miata net gives a good indication of what the differences will be with the diferent tyres sizes
Edd_W
Just do a google for tyre diameter calculator - you will find ones like this http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html I have just had some wheels from Bespoke Wheels - they are local to me and he knows what will fit - look for his EBay shop.
