collease
Make an escort GTI as i actually spotted a 16v escort with gti badges on the back side and front. I could not believe it when Mrs C spotted it.

SamD
I think so, IIRC it was a 1.

Ari
They made a crappy Mk5 RS2000 as well, another badge engineered nothingness. Considering how awesome the original proper RS2000 was in it's day it was sacrilege.
collease
oh that is worrying. Was it any good. It did not seem to be very rapid when i left it behind.

Not as much fun as bosses then 2.9i Turbo Technics twin turbo Scorpio. That was somewhat rapid back in 1994.

collease
So was it just a standard 1.8 escort with a GTI badge put on it. Or did they actually do anything with it. It looked rather un sporty if there is even such a word.
v15ben
The Escort GTi was 1.8 which had a vague attempt at a bodykit. It had a minimal spoiler and side skirts but nothing that would shout "Sporty" at any volume!
collease
that will be what i saw. Mrs C thought it was hilarious as the lad driving it tried to pull away from me joining the A47. his face was a picture as i went past. It was the exhaust that got me confused. If it had not had the tin can protruding 6inches out the back i probably would have thought it was genuin rather than telling Mrs C it was proabably just a chav making himself feel better. S3ENVY
An old friend of mine had one, bright red, immaculate condition, 5-spoke Cosworth style wheels.....it was shite. My Dad on the other hand has an original MK2 RS2000........now that's a cool Ford!

[/ QUOTE ] It was utter garbage, as was pretty much any other Escort of that era. [/ QUOTE ] Indeed it was. They sold in very low numbers and then they plummeted in residual values. Wheeler Dealers had one on a few years ago and the guy had to drop about £1500 from his original asking price to even get a sniff from buyers. Mike whatshisname (the shows host) said at the time that it just wasn't a good car, in any way whatsoever. I recall reading the likes of Performance Car (I think) at the time when they belittled it and Clarkson said that whereas the Escort generation it was released in was the worst ever, that the RS2000 took the biscuit as possibly the worst 'performance' car of its generation. activa
Does anyone remember that awful advert for the late RS2000? They had it on a dyno, and it hits 120bhp or something and the mechanics all shake their heads, then it hits 130bhp and they do similar again, then it hits 150bhp and they all stick their thumbs up with big grins all round. Strangely though,I remember driving the 130bhp XR3 when it was new back in about 1993 IIRC and it was actually quite impressive.Very torquey and quite free revving for a 90's Ford lump, then they messed it all up with the 2litre.
