walter_the_great
i have been driving my diesel this morning, i have noticed when i was stopped(traffic lights etc.) the mpg meter was dropping very fast(38.3 down to 7.9mpg!!!) but when i drove off the computer would gradually go up again. I used to get 42.8mpg before thhis started. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
Rustynuts
What car is it? What reading did you have showing on the dash (was it instantaneous or cumulative)? How far had you driven when this was happening?
walter_the_great
its a 2000 vectra 2.0 dti, the mileage drop was cumulative, my bro was driving it last night, and i was first thing in the morning, i was only driving for about 20mins before i noticed it
Rustynuts
Sounds to me like the computer's up the swanny. Check the miles travelled against a full tank of fuel and see what you're getting.

gizze
Of course it will drop like mad whilst sitting at lights, you are getting 0mpg at that time. Just reset it again and leave it for a while, after 1000 miles it will really settle down and only change every few days, but it will be up and down like a yo-yo for the first few miles.
