SamD
Next weekend I am hiring a 1980's 911 Targa from Bespokes (my 30th birthday present from my family.) I am looking for any tips as to how I can get the best from it, particularly in relation to driving style. I hear they are a little feisty and I am slightly nervous about driving it! We are going to spend the weekend in the Cotswolds so there should be some nice country roads to take the car out on.
Scotty
Be careful what you ask for! http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/760212/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1 N.B. I don't think this was from Bespokes.
SamD
He he, luckily I know that the one I am hiring is a blue unmolested one
sidicks
I think the key thing to be careful with is braking or accelerating mid-corner. Anything that might unsettle the car is to be avoided, as the old 911 was notorious for going through hedges backwards! Sidick
bazza_g
yup, the pendulum effect of early 911's is something to fear
Thorburn
On reputation I'd say take it easy, and remember that the limits will be far more modest than in a modern day performance car. Avoid anything that's going to provoke oversteer, take corners in a slow-in, fast-out style to take advantage of the rear engined traction. Problem_Child
I rented one from there a couple of years ago- great fun but the gearbox was a pain, my other hapf at the time gave up after getting reverse instead of fourth! Treat it like it's not yours and take your time finding your feet and you should be fine. Have fun!
