Golfer
Can I download software that would/could be used on a lap-top to do the same think?
Sebastian
Not sure if I got your point but you do know that you also need hardware that you can use with the software?! When looking at your profile, you do need a Ross-Tech HEX+CAN interface, which comes with a software license.

PetrolDave
It's the lead that connects from your PC to the diagnostic connector on your car. You can't use a standard serial or USB lead, you need a special one.

Rustynuts
You buy the lead (from Ross Tech this is) and it acts as a dongle (it has a built in license key) to activate the full software functionality. The software is free, but without the Ross Tech lead (like using an aftermarket lead) you only get limited functionality and are limited to earlier versions of the software. You can buy a license from Ross Tech to activate the software to work with your aftermarket lead, but are still limited to earlier versions of the software which may not be suitable for your cars interface. So, in essence, yes. Load the software, buy the lead, plug it in and away you go.

[/ QUOTE ] Future SW upgrades are free downloads from their website. And several of the guys at Ross-Tech are active on here, AudiWorld, AudiSport.net and on a Yahoo! group to help answer questions from users. Plus they have their own wiki.
