Just won an Xbox 360

Went to the wifes office ball on Friday night and won an XBox 360 in the prize draw. It's the one with the built-in hard disk and wireless controller.

All well and good, except it doesn't have any games frown.gif

I haven't had a console since the days of the Sega MegaDrive and Sonic the Hedgehog. So what's the best way into new generation gaming, what should I be buying?

I'm slightly intimidated by the number of different buttons and joysticks on this bloody controller though. So nothing that requires me to press 5 buttons in combination with an up on one joystick and a down on another!

I'm guessing PGR3 is quite a good place to start....

Yep, definately a good place to start.

Personally the first thing you should do is get onto Live, you'll be able to download Demos of most games from there to try before you buy, while actually competing against other people in the games is much more fun than just playing against the computer AI.

Of the games available right now, have a look at Call of Duty 2, Ghost Recon Advanced Warrior, Moto GP, Lego Star Wars, there are quite a few others on top of that as well.

Do you like any types of games in particular? As there are some very good games arriving soon in the usual pre christmas flood.

If you have broadband, id recommend not even buy any games, just sign up to the Xbox Live Arcade, and download some of the demos.

Awww, sh!t.

I knew I should have bought the wireless network plug-in thingy as well. Couldn't see the point when I picked it up but now I know what Live is.

Does anybody have this WiFi link? I can't see whether it will support my existing WPA protected LAN.

Also, anybody used it on ntl? I've got their 10mb broadband connection but not sure whether this supports Xbox Live, or not.

Cheers! beerchug.gif

I believe they support WPA and should work with any broadband connection connected through a router.

Not sure to be honest.

Driving games would be top of the list, I guess, as long as they're entertaining and not a real sim where you have to mess about with camber, tyre pressures, downforce etc, etc.

The only stuff I'm not really bothered about is the fighting stuff (martial arts/boxing) as in my limited experience of them, they mean you need to learn a load of "power moves" to get anything out of them.

I kind of just want to be able to sit down, fire it up and play without having to scour the internet for tips on how to kill the big baddy!

I just bought PGR3 and a Ghost Recon game (although I suspect the latter might take a bit reading up on).

Cheers!
